Happy 50th Anniversary PRIDE weekend!!! Bravo to the brave men in NY who fought 50 yrs ago for their rights. 10 yrs ago, June 2010, Brian drove down the 5 fwy with a packed car to move into his new Santa Monica apt before his new job. He had just come back from a sponsored leadership course in Zurich post grad school after realizing that professional rugby couldn’t last forever. He was about to have matching furniture for the first time in his adult life & a spicy blonde roommate deep in the LA mix studying evolutionary biology. ...We made it 3 weeks as roommates before the subject of dating was broached.
Obviously dating your roommate has some hilarious red flags 🚩 but 10 years later, here we are. Our costume collection has expanded as has the wonderful people in our orbit. Most importantly, our communication tools & self awareness have grown. Partnership is a journey and both need to begin with the end in mind staying aware of likely pitfalls & frustratingly diminishing brain chemicals. We have defied odds and statistics, intentionally staying mindful of trauma’s effects, the limitations of our biology, and the differences between the genders. I’m grateful for such a solid good human to attempt partnership with. His return to love over & over again in disciplined, relentless ways has brought me to a place of safety, healing, & unconditional love. Cheers to this fabulous adventure, this incredibly grounded man, and the many more shenanigans and growth opportunities to come. @ San Francisco, California
