20% of population and 80-90% of learning disabilities are dyslexia? ➡️ https://dyslexia.yale.edu/dyslexia/dyslexia-faq/

Dyslexia is a general education problem, not a special ed problem? More than half of California 4th graders can’t read at grade level ➡️ https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/subject/publications/stt2022/pdf/2023010CA4.pdf

It’s never too late (or too early) to get assessed if you think you or your child might have . It may be mild, moderate, severe or profound. An official diagnosis will open doors not close them, because it will empower you to get the appropriate remediation if necessary. Remember that intelligence is NOT measured by reading ability or spelling.

I was at the rally today in SF. Please sign this petition for universal dyslexia screening. It’s unacceptable that CA, the 5th largest economy on the planet, does not have mandatory dyslexia screening….. One assemblyman is holding up the hearing for this bill. Please sign the prediction. https://decodingdyslexiaca.org/sb-237

If you had a choice between an easy path or an intense obstacle course to get from point A to point B, which would you feel most successful at? Dyslexics don’t have a choice, and the path has nothing to do with intelligence.

Dyslexia does NOT mean you shouldn’t flip through the dictionary once in a while. Cool stuff in there. Deficits in sequential sequencing (e.g., the “order” of ABCs, which is totally random to the untrained ear…) is one of the hallmarks of dyslexia. WHY should C follow B, which follows A? Where is the LOGIC in the explanation? There is none.

Visual explanations can be powerful.

Did you know that the CA Code of Education specifically covers dyslexia? It’s listed right there in the statute, under eligibility criteria for special education services. 5 CCR 3030(b)(30).
