Daily dive reports for Southern California

08/20/2022

in the … very clear and very warm! ;)

We are being spoiled with conditions this week on Long Island, Bahamas. The / crew is down here for with diving .

It’s quite humbling to be able to dive in such a gorgeous location, and in the worlds deepest blue hole 😮

We won’t have drone footage from this week since we are all down here, but we’ll still try to keep you as informed as possible on SanDiego conditions. Also though, remember to check the — people have been pretty active with leaving reports in the most popular areas!

: Things are looking less than ideal for diving in North County today, but conditions have improved and will continue to improve throughout the week. is starting to see the reef again today from the drone which he couldn't yesterday. Currently conditions are very spotty with mostly mixed up areas of low visibility with some small windows of
potentially 10ft visibility. Not a good day to dive, but if you had to put dinner on the table, you could make this work.

This weekend we saw swell and lots of wind which makes sense
why we've had bad visibility. The good news is after today, the winds look great all week. The swell looks like it will continue to hold around 3ft all week so there will be some waves to deal with, but we might see some decent to good
diving conditions in the near future.

Things are looking less than ideal for North County today. We had some reports from La Jolla that sounded decent and diveable so that might be the place to be right now. We’ve had swell and lots of wind which makes sense why we’ve seen bad reports lately. Right now for north county we’re seeing very spotty conditions with mostly cloudy areas of low visibility with some small windows of maybe 10ft clarity. Not good but if you had to out food on the table you could make it work. After today the winds report throughout the week look great. Swell holds around 3ft this week but we should still see conditions improve and potentially have some decent to good diving this week.

Views from north county. Conditions seem to be similar to yesterday but slightly worse. There are areas of decent visibility (8-12ft maybe better) and then there are cloudy areas (3-8ft). If you keep kicking you’ll finding something worth enjoying. The swell and wind look good all week so we can expect the visibility to hold or get better.

Views from North County this morning. Still getting some nice views of the reef from above. Swell is holding around 1-3 ft today. It seems like early has been the best time for visibility and then as the onshore winds kick up in the afternoon, the vis goes down. Overall looking like a good day to dive North County.

We dove La Jolla yesterday and it was warm and clear. 72F on the surface with 15-20ft visibility. There are definitely murky areas but if you kick around you can find some clear pockets. .

A beautiful Sunday to be in the water at the shores. Greeted by next to no swell, 71F surface temps and 15-20ft visibility. Things got a little hazy past 30ft but opened up some at depth. So happy that things cleared up so quickly after that last run of swell. Get out and enjoy the water

A look at things from North County. It’s beautiful out here. Sun is out and it’s hot! Swell has dropped a bit, waves coming in around 2-3ft. For the first time we’re starting to see glimpses of the reef which is great news. It’s still mixed up but conditions are improving. Winds are light all week. This swell continues to hold at about 2-3 feet through the weekend and then drops even further so good dive conditions could be in our foreseeable future. If you need to dive there’s some small pockets to be found around 8-12ft but most likely most areas will be 3-8ft visibility. If you’re a fisherman the offshore conditions are looking pretty great. This recent run of swell is going to break loose a lot of kelps so the Paddy hopping should be all time.

Current views of the coast up in Nortj County. It’s pretty clear to see what this run of swell is doing to our inshore visibility. The swell peaked this morning and will slowly drop throughout the week so most likely we won’t see things settle down until this weekend or even after that. Grab your surf board

SoCal weekend report: mostly for surfers. South wind isn’t crazy but looks to be consistent, and head high + swells will continue throughout Saturday and Sunday. Might be worth checking the cove/the shores as the south wind will be shielded, we’ll keep the updates coming on our new website. Overall there won’t be any magical underwater conditions this weekend.
