Hello Brothers,
This past week has been a whirlwind of questions and our daily lives have been disturbed in one form or another. We pray that you and your families are safe and healthy. The following is a reminder and update on the current status of events for the PMA San Diego County Alumni Association:
- All Alumni events and meetings are canceled or postponed. The Etna's Anniversary Celebration on April 25 is also canceled until further notice.
- All PMA Province Events are canceled or postponed.
- All EO Chapter events are canceled. Our brothers in college now have their academics and potential living places now disrupted. Reach out to a college brother you know to see if they're okay.
Brothers, despite needing to be separate, we must be creative as ever to still be connected. Drink not from the waters of oblivion, but wake and kindle anew our flame of melody. Stay Safe my Brothers.

Brothers of Phi Mu Alpha, It is with a heavy heart we announce we will have to postpone the 70th Anniversary to a date to be announced sometime in the Fall of 2020.
Due to Coronavirus concerns in the San Diego Community, and of course the world at large, San Diego State University will be shutting down physical classes and large scale events after April 6th, 2020.
Although we are saddened by this ill timing and postponement, we believe it to be a blessing in disguise. We will take this newly given extra time to heart, and make the event to come that much better and with more time for you all to plan for the incredible time to come.
We will keep you all posted when we have more information to share regarding a specific date, which will be sometime this Fall of 2020. We hope you all stay safe in these trying times, and we look forward to seeing you all then.

Today is Sinfonia’s “Founder’s Day” – the 121st anniversary of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the world’s oldest and largest music fraternity, founded in 1898.
In 1898, Mills founded the Sinfonia Club at the conservatory, which was destined very soon to become Alpha Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. He was elected an honorary member of the club at its first meeting on October 6, 1898.
Often referred to as the “Father of the Sinfonia,” Mills had been a familiar figure at annual conventions until his last years when his work would not permit his leaving Boston. He served the Fraternity as Supreme President from 1901-1902 and 1904-1905 and was elected “Honorary Grand Supreme President for Life” in 1904.
In 1954, former Supreme President Percy Burrell recalled his long friendship with Mills. He noted above all Mills’ humility and the fact that Mills became somewhat uncomfortable when given recognition as having “planted a seed in the hearts of some young men studying music at the New England Conservatory in Boston back in 1898, that had blossomed forth into a national brotherhood that year after year had been making its impress throughout the country…” Burrell wrote further: “I can still see what seemed to be a wistful yet joyous expression on his face whenever this thought was expressed in his presence.”
Ossian Mills died from pneumonia at his home in Wellesley, Massachusetts on December 26, 1920. He had been ill for only a few days, and “his death came as a great shock to his associates and assistants to all of whom was familiar the story of the great service which he rendered in the earlier years of the school” and which he “unremittingly continued” during his later years. He is buried in the family plot of a small, wooded cemetery in Thompson, Connecticut.
May we continue to honor Ossian’s vision.
Happy Founder’s Day, Brothers!

It has been 18 years since the attacks that resulted in the loss of thousands of American lives. Today, we honor the memory of those we lost and the responders who bravely faced danger for the sake of their fellow man.
Our nation's spirit is one of unity. Although shaken for a moment, that spirit will stand forever firm. It is a testament to the power of our bond as a country.
