Closing Speaker:
Mariah Jameson
Wed. March 16
2:20-3:45 PM
MS-162
Mariah Jameson is a community activist, Scholar, and Mother of two. She has attributed her love for all things Social Justice to her work in the community and advocating for Former Foster Youth. In 2018, Mariah was awarded The Blue Heart Foundations Guardian Scholar Award, which is given to a former foster youth and current student who is an advocate for others and role model to their community. Although 13 years of her childhood were spent in the foster care system, Mariah has never allowed her past to dictate her future. She was born and raised in Southeast San Diego and graduated from Lincoln High School. Mariah Jameson is a first-generation college graduate, she attended San Diego City College and served as the UMOJA Club President for 3 years before transferring to Clark Atlanta University where she earned her bachelor’s and in May of this year, a Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration of Mental Health. After being accepted into an Advanced Standing Master’s program, Mariah began to explore different elements of Social Work including research and is on staff with Rise Research and Evaluation, which affirms Social Justice while focusing on the intersection of culture and wellness. While currently completing her master’s degree, Mariah has worked vigorously to implement Mental Health Peer Support services on campus after several tragedies occurred and ultimately succeeded after gaining the attention of the campus’ President, Dr. French. Mariah has identified a deep need for mental health services across a variety of settings including foster care, college students, people experiencing homelessness. She intends to meet this need by obtaining a clinical license and providing space for other clinicians to serve the community. (All while dismantling the Foster Care system!)
