A few days have gone by since the tragedy at ICSD. An attack targeted not just at a mosque- but at a school, at children. Our families across the entire community are feeling the weight of what happened. The loss of friends and family members. The loss of safety and security. Everyone struggling between waves of disbelief, anger, sadness, fear, and hopelessness. All the while, trying to process that those we lost. Those pillars of the community, the familiar faces that everyone who visited ICSD knew and loved, won't be there the next time we walk through. In such times, we lean into our community and faith, remembering that those we lost were protectors. They ran towards danger to protect everyone and make sure every child went home safely that day, knowing full well that their actions could mean they would not. We are forever in their debt, and the place they occupied in our hearts and our community can never be filled. May they rest in peace. May they attain the highest levels of paradise. May their families find strength and patience. Inna lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Rajeoon.
