🩺 Quick Tip: The Most Common Cause of Maternal Tachycardia in the PACU?
Hemorrhage.
Even if you don’t see active bleeding.

In the immediate postpartum period, tachycardia should not be dismissed as pain or medication effects without ruling out more serious causes.

✅ The most common culprits include:
• Hypovolemia
• Hemorrhage
• Infection
• Medication effects
• Pain

📌 Hidden or internal bleeding is often missed in the PACU.
Patients may appear stable while actively losing blood.

🔍 Always rule out hemorrhage and volume loss first.
Look for signs of infection.

Pain should be the last assumption—not the first.

This is how we catch problems early, before they escalate.
