Innovation takes teamwork, creativity and perseverance.

This year, Team Quetzal, agroup of SDSU mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering and electrical and computer engineering students, designed, built and tested a one-of-a-kind unmanned aircraft for the California Unmanned Aerial Systems Competition at the Mojave Air and Space Port.

Their innovative bi-plane tail-sitter vertical takeoff and landing aircraft stood apart from traditional drone designs and drew attention from competitors and event organizers alike. Despite challenging weather conditions, the team successfully completed competition flights and showcased the ingenuity, resilience and collaboration that define SDSUโ€™s College of Engineering.

Join us in congratulating Team Quetzal on this outstanding achievement! ๐Ÿ‘

Happy World Environment Day! ๐ŸŒฟ

Our Environmental Engineering Department prepares students to address some of today's most pressing environmental challenges, from ensuring safe drinking water to reducing air pollution and protecting public health.

Through courses like Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems and Environmental Chemistry for Engineers, along with opportunities to engage in research through the Geo-Innovations Research Lab and serve communities through Engineers Without Borders, students gain the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to create sustainable solutions for a changing world.

This World Environment Day, we celebrate the future engineers working to protect our environment and build a more sustainable future for all. ๐Ÿ’š

Another major achievement for SDSU's College of Engineering. โœˆ๏ธ

At the 2026 3D Printed Aircraft Competition (3DPAC), SDSU teams led on the leaderboard, earning first place in the Aircraft Design Competition and multiple top finishes in Flight Duration. Team Glide or Die captured first place in design and set a new SDSU flight duration record with a remarkable 44+ second flight during a post-competition fly-off.

Over the past nine months, students from mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering researched, designed, fabricated, tested and refined fully 3D-printed aircraft as part of their Senior Design Capstone experience. Their success reflects the power of collaboration, innovation, and persistence.

Congratulations to our teams Glide or Die, Osprey, Cloud 9, and Albatross, along with the faculty, staff, alumni mentors, and volunteers who helped make this achievement possible. What an incredible example of Aztec ingenuity in action.
