Here are the progress report grades from one of my high school mentees. He is an 11th grader and a very bright young man who plays Varsity basketball. 🏀 He needed tutoring in essay writing and brainstorming for his AP English Composition summer assignments, and he has performed exceptionally well thus far.

Hello there! Let's continue building our community with interesting discussions and engaging posts.
The best strategy for studying for me is by studying at the beginning of the month for about about 4-8 hours per class.
Within this time, take really good notes of your assigned readings and lectures.
Then for the next few weeks of the month, you can review and annotate your notes with different color pens and highlighters. This is necessary to make reference of key concepts and critical points of lectures and readings. Also, if you can teach others what you have learned then you are prepared to take on any exam or tackle any essay prompt.
As you get closer to the time of your exam, essay, or paper being due start to refresh your memory by re-reading over your annotated lecture slides, your highlighted notes, and answer self-made questions about the topics from your notes a couple of days before your exam. Keep doing this up until the night of the exam. Then meditate on positive thoughts on how well you will do to strengthen your confidence and reduce your anxiety.

5 Tips for Studying
1. Space out your time wisely.
2. Study as long as more than 2 hours per hour of class time at home for the 1st week of the month before the exam then study longer than 2 hours for the next week and so on and so on.
3. Take a 10 to 15 minute break in between your studies
4. Review and test yourself without looking over the material
5. Write things down and speak out loud as you review and recite concepts to yourself or others. ***The key to learning is to retain the information enough to teach it to a complete stranger or at least someone who doesn’t know the material well.
