Le Petit Pâtissier, A Culinary Arts Lab for Kids

Earlier this week we had our first sessions of Eat the Rainbow, our four-week culinary arts enrichment series in the month of July for little chefs ages 2-4 🌈 This playful introduction to cooking uses fruits, veggies, and other colorful ingredients to support fine motor development, sensory exploration, and adventurous eating. This week our little chefs prepared roasted spiralized sweet potatoes, green eggs, and a rainbow fruit tray. We had fun exploring kitchen tools like the spiralizer and food processor, picking herbs, cracking eggs, practicing knife skills, mixing, scrambling, and of course, tasting everything we made. Join us for a month of culinary arts enrichment classes in spring 2025!

Our enrichment classes are designed to provide a safe, inspiring environment for your child to learn foundational cooking skills that will last a lifetime… and so much more! Our goal in each class we teach is to empower your child’s creativity, confidence, and curiosity.

Cooking classes can teach kids so much more than foundational cooking skills! When done thoughtfully, cooking classes provide opportunities for children to:

⭐Refine fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination

⭐Practice and refine executive function skills including focus, creating and following a plan, sequencing and logical thinking, and time management

⭐Explore math and science concepts such as following a formula, measurements and fractions, and physical and chemical reactions

⭐Develop a taste and appreciation for fresh, whole foods and flavors, including how different foods nourish our bodies, providing a foundation for a healthy and fulfilling relationship with food

⭐Develop an appreciation for new foods, flavors, cuisines, and cultures, expanding their culinary horizons, and more generally, their openness to new experiences

⭐ Exercise creativity, and gain confidence in their ability to accomplish tasks independently

We are thoughtful about our pedagogy, and believe children learn best in a warm, encouraging environment and from instructors with a gentle approach. Our priority is to promote students’ sense of independence and confidence, and to nurture their innate curiosity and creativity. When kids learn new things in a way that makes them feel supported and capable, it sets them up for a life-long love of learning and trying new things ✨

Welcome to our page! We are excited to share pictures, stories, and updates about our classes, parties, events, and other happenings. But first, I'll introduce myself:

Hi, I’m Jessica, and I love cooking with kids! After practicing law for 15 years, I decided to follow a life-long dream and go to culinary school. Now, I feel extremely fortunate to spend my time doing something I love: sharing my passion for and knowledge about cooking with junior chefs in training. Not only is it a lot of fun, but it is deeply rewarding because it provides kids so many opportunities to learn and grow.

In my classes at Le Petit Pâtissier, I draw not only on my culinary expertise, but also my undergraduate education in child development, and years of experience cooking with kids, including my own. I am an avid learner in the fields of culinary arts, child development, and childhood nutrition and feeding, and my knowledge in these areas informs the contents and style of my classes.
