We promote quality science education for elementary students with a focus on equity in education. Science Delivered Mission

1.

Science is a foundational, yet often overlooked subject for our youngest learners and we address this challenge! To provide engaging and accessible STEM activities

In the wrong hands, science can be dry and confusing. But presented in a different manner, science is exciting and inspiring. We aim to bring science to life for our students, especially those with limited educational opportunities.

Come see "Dr. Olivia" present about integrated science and literacy teaching at the San Diego STEAM Educators conference!

WORKSHOP SPOTLIGHT: “Science & Literacy: Better Together”

Pairing fun, hands-on activities and literacy provides students with a deeper understanding of the material. Join Olivia Mullins, Founder and Executive Director of Science Delivered, to explore simple, actionable techniques to level up your science and STEAM teaching by integrating literacy into your lessons. You will learn about strategies for literacy integration, participate in a hands-on activity, and leave with a list of free- or low-cost online resources to support integrating literacy in your classroom.

Great fun studying magnetic forces with 3rd graders!

Friction boards is one of our favorite lessons. It's week two with friction, week two with graphing, and week three with the students doing experiments with multiple trials! The kids get right to work counting how many washers it takes to move their blocks in the four different conditions. Most of the third graders also fully understand the graphing by now (from our lessons and their classroom lessons) and need minimal instruction to graph their results. It's a joy to see such quick growth!

The Learning2 collaboration and pilot has elevated our programming and deepened our relationships with students, teachers, and schools. We are so excited to build and grow this program.

Learning2 is an initiative designed to improve literacy and science foundations in second and third-grade students in southeastern San Diego. This is a partnership of EIS, Science Delivered, and California Reading & Literature Project Statewide Office (CRLP). We are thrilled to have an opportunity to help more elementary school students prepare for middle school and high school. Learning2 was piloted in six 2nd-grade classrooms in Spring 2023. Students showed evidence of learning and teachers rated the program highly. Learning2 is offered at no cost to neighborhood schools.

This post is a goodbye to the Virginia Branch.

In 2015 the Virginia branch of Science Delivered was officially launched. The hard work and dedication of Kelly Barford and Taylor Welsh brought Science Delivered Charlottesville to fruition. (Kelly and Taylor were Neuroscience graduate students at the University of Virginia when the branch was first launched. today they are Dr. Barford and Dr. Welsh).

In 2018 Kelly moved out of Virginia to pursue the next stages of her career. She continued to be involved in operations and joined the board while Taylor managed and provided all the labs, eventually taking over as solo Director of the Virginia branch.

Recently, Taylor and her family relocated to Georgia to begin the next chapter of their lives. The Science Delivered Virginia branch continued to provide STEM supplies and lesson plans to Virginia schools for a period of time. However, the distance provided a substantial barrier and we collectively made the decision to sunset the branch.

Taylor is continuing to work in STEM Education and starting a position as a STEM teacher at Logos Classical Academy. Kelly is working as contract support at the National Institutes of Health after completing her AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship at the Department of Defense. I have no doubt that they will both continue to find great success.

Kelly and Taylor - thank you for all your efforts and impact. It was a joy to work with you.

To our Virginia community, including teachers, students, and volunteers, thank you so much for embracing our work and mission.

Science Delivered is still going strong out in San Diego, but our east coast friends will be greatly missed.

Dr. Olivia Mullins
Executive Director
