Most people don’t know that I used to be an inventor
I always had a mind for creating something that could change the world.
In 2004 I drew this idea in a sticky note of a car alarm key fob that would point you in the direction of where your car was parked.
I thought it was silly that folks were still forgetting where they parked their cars and wandering around parking lots pressing the panic button over and over again until they were 50 feet from their vehicle.
From a sticky note to reality, the next few years were filled with design, testing, and pitching the idea of the “Auto Finder” to some of the largest manufacturers in the Country.
In 2007 my lawyer was reviewing a deal with General Motors for the technology to be implemented into the 2012 GM vehicles.
Before we could sign the contract, the economy fell apart and the deal was squished.
I remember getting a fax one day while sitting at my desk that said “General Motors is no longer accepting new technologies and is receiving a government bail out“.
Although the jaws of defeat ripped victory right from underneath me, the value was in the journey.
What I learned, what I accomplished, and what mistakes were made along the way helped to sharpen my axe for what was to come.
Well, this photo represents years of effort, countless support, and relentless vision.
(The Photo) These were just a few of the catalogs that sold the Auto Finder as a retail product. Remember SkyMall?
It’s always fun to be able to say that I invented a product, got three patents on it, manufactured it in China, sold it in sky mall catalog, and almost signed a deal with General Motors.
We only have one life to live! Go after your dreams!!
The worst thing that can happen is that you push and do your best only to lose the game in the last seconds of the 4th quarter.
That’s a part of playing the game! The worst regret is never trying and taking your amazing ideas and dreams with you to the grave yard.
