💚 CP Awareness Month Spotlight: Cole 🤍

Happy Friday! As I get to share inspiring stories about our community, this is nothing but a reminder of why we advocate, why we support, and why we continue showing up for individuals and families in the CP community. Every story reflects resilience, joy, and the power of being seen — and today’s Friday Feature is no exception.

As we are in the middle of October — Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month — I wanted to take a moment to highlight someone incredibly special. Someone whose story reminds us why awareness, advocacy, and community matter so deeply.

Meet Cole.
A 5‑year‑old miracle who just couldn’t wait to get life started!

Cole surprised everyone when he made his sudden entrance into the world at just 24 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound, 10 ounces. He spent the first five months of his life fighting in the NICU, where he suffered a grade 4 brain bleed that left him with a devastating prognosis.

But Cole has never been one to let the odds define him.

Today, he lives with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and global developmental delays. While his journey looks different from most children his age, Cole continues to amaze everyone around him. He is full of personality, has the most contagious laugh, and works harder in a single day than most people could ever imagine.

Cole is now a proud kindergartener, plays on a baseball team, and continues to experience all the joys of being a little boy. He may do things differently, and he may need a little extra help along the way, but that doesn’t mean he deserves to miss out on any of life’s experiences.

Cole has taught us that progress comes in all shapes and sizes — that the smallest milestones can be the biggest victories — and that a life with disabilities is still a beautiful, meaningful life worth celebrating. His story is one of resilience, determination, and so much joy.

And the best part?
He’s just getting started.

Cole, we believe in you.
We celebrate you.
And we will continue to advocate for you and the CP community — this month and every month after. 💚✨

October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, and I want to take a moment to speak directly to our community — the students, adults, families, educators, self‑advocates, and supporters who show up every day with determination, creativity, and heart.

Awareness isn’t just about knowing that learning disabilities exist. Awareness is about understanding the people behind the label — their strengths, their strategies, their lived experiences, and the systems they’re navigating. It’s about recognizing that learning differences are not deficits; they’re part of human diversity.

Every day, individuals with learning disabilities are building lives filled with purpose, talent, and possibility. They’re writers, entrepreneurs, artists, engineers, advocates, caregivers, and leaders. They’re shaping our communities in ways that deserve to be seen, honored, and uplifted.

But awareness also means acknowledging the barriers that still exist — the gaps in educational supports, the challenges in accessing accommodations, the moments students feel misunderstood or dismissed, the times adults have to advocate for what should have been accessible from the start. These realities matter. And they’re exactly why advocacy matters.

This month, I’m inviting all of us to lean in a little closer:

✨ Listen to the voices of individuals with learning disabilities ✨ Learn from families who’ve walked this journey ✨ Support disability‑led organizations and inclusive education ✨ Challenge outdated narratives about intelligence and ability ✨ Celebrate the resilience, brilliance, and creativity of our community

Awareness is the first step. Action is the next. And community is what carries us forward.

To every person with a learning disability — your voice, your presence, and your story enrich our world. You deserve classrooms, workplaces, and communities that understand how you learn, honor your strengths, and support your success.

To every family — your advocacy is powerful. Your dedication is seen. Your love is transformative.

To every educator, professional, and ally — thank you for showing up with compassion, curiosity, and a commitment to doing better.

This month, and every month, let’s keep building a world where learning differences are embraced, supported, and celebrated — not stigmatized.

We rise together. 💛✨

✨ Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month — and CP Awareness Day 🤍💚

This month — and especially this week — is all about you. Your strength. Your story. Your resilience. Your voice. And the incredible way you continue to show up in a world that doesn’t always make space for the realities of living with CP.

Tuesday was CP Awareness Day, but the truth is… your courage deserves recognition every single day. You’ve opened your heart and shared pieces of your journey that many people never get to see. You’ve let us into the vulnerable parts — the challenges, the victories, the moments of uncertainty, and the moments of absolute triumph. And that vulnerability is powerful. It’s brave. It’s leadership.

Thank you for trusting us with your story.
Thank you for letting us witness your growth.
Thank you for showing the world what strength really looks like.

Your life is not defined by CP — but your resilience, your determination, and your spirit absolutely inspire everyone around you. You remind us that advocacy isn’t just about raising awareness; it’s about standing beside real people, real families, and real experiences. And we will continue to stand with you, uplift you, and advocate for you and this community because we believe in you. Deeply.

You deserve to be celebrated.
You deserve to be heard.
You deserve to be supported.
And you deserve a world that sees your brilliance long before it sees your diagnosis.

Here’s to you — today, this week, this month, and every day after.
We’re with you. We’re proud of you. And we’ll keep showing up for you and this community, always. 💚✨

🌟 Exciting Community Update! 🌟

I’ve been dreaming up something new for our EmpowerConnect community, and I’m finally ready to share a little sneak peek. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working behind the scenes on a project that means so much to me — the creation of Community-Based Social Groups designed to bring people together, build friendships, and create safe, welcoming spaces for connection and support.

These groups will be all about belonging, shared experiences, and having a place where people feel seen and valued. Whether you’re a self‑advocate, a caregiver, a family member, or someone who simply wants to be part of a positive, inclusive community, this is for you.

As we continue shaping the structure and exploring ideas, I want to hear from you.
Is there a topic, space, or type of group you’ve always wished existed — something that would help you feel supported, connected, or understood? Your voice matters, and your ideas can help guide what we build next.

If this sounds like something you’d want to be part of, or if you have a group idea you’d love to see come to life, please DM me and I’ll add you to our interest list.

I’m so excited to bring this to life for our community. More updates coming soon 💛✨

🌟 CalABLE Is Hosting a Webinar Next Month

We’re excited to share an upcoming opportunity for our disability community, families, and professionals across California.

Next month, CalABLE will host a webinar designed to help individuals with disabilities and their families understand how CalABLE and Medi‑Cal work together to support long‑term financial stability without losing access to essential public benefits. This session is perfect for anyone looking to save, invest, and plan confidently for the future.

💬 What the Webinar Covers

• How CalABLE accounts protect eligibility for programs like SSI and Medi‑Cal
• How savings and investments interact with Medi‑Cal rules
• Ways families can save for meaningful goals without risking healthcare or other supports
• Real examples and a live Q&A with program experts

👥 Who Should Attend

• Individuals with disabilities
• Medi‑Cal recipients planning for today and the future
• Parents, guardians, and family members
• Service providers, case managers, educators, and transition specialists
• Advocates and nonprofit partners
• Anyone interested in understanding CalABLE and Medi‑Cal eligibility

🌱 Why This Matters

Financial empowerment is a pathway to independence. When families understand how CalABLE and Medi‑Cal work together, they gain the confidence to save for education, housing, transportation, assistive technology, and other essential needs — all while keeping the benefits that support daily life.

Our community updates are officially back — and I couldn’t be more excited to share this with you. 💛

Last week , EmpowerConnect Services released our very first newsletter as an established nonprofit organization. It marked a milestone that has been months in the making: building systems, shaping programs, strengthening partnerships, and laying the foundation for the work we’re here to do in East County and beyond.

As we continue growing, I want our community to stay connected to every step of this journey — the progress, the challenges, the behind‑the‑scenes development, and the stories that remind us why this mission matters. Starting this month, I’ll be returning to monthly newsletters filled with updates, upcoming projects, opportunities to get involved, and ways we’re expanding support for individuals and families.

If you’d like to be included in these monthly updates, I would love to add you. Please DM me your email, and I’ll make sure you’re added to our newsletter list.

Thank you for being part of this community, for cheering on this work, and for believing in the future we’re building together. The momentum is growing, and I’m grateful to share it with you. ✨

🌟 The Pathway to Possibility Community Fund Is Officially Live

We are so excited to announce this news — today marks a meaningful milestone for EmpowerConnect Services, one built from dedication, community support, and the belief that every family deserves access to person‑centered guidance as they navigate the Self‑Determination Program. I’m grateful to share that The Pathway to Possibility Community Fund is now live and ready to receive donations.

This fund represents the heart of our mission. It fuels the workshops we’re building, the advocacy tools we’re developing, and the person‑centered planning resources families rely on. It supports outreach to those who feel overwhelmed by systems, and it strengthens the foundation we’re creating for future programming and community connection.

Every contribution — no matter the size — directly supports families in San Diego County and beyond. It helps us expand Independent Facilitation supports, grow our educational materials, and continue building toward a future physical space where families can gather, learn, and feel supported.

If you’re able, I invite you to join us in this foundation year by contributing to the Pathway to Possibility Community Fund. And just as importantly, sharing our campaign link helps us reach even more families who need connection, clarity, and advocacy.

✨ You can find the donation link in our bio.
Together, we’re building possibility.
Together, we’re strengthening community.
Together, we’re creating a pathway forward.

EmpowerConnect Services is preparing to submit our 501(c)(3) application to the IRS. Once we submit, our status will be pending, and contributions may become tax‑deductible retroactively once approved. Along with this task We will also be submitting our CT‑1 registration to the California Attorney General within the required 30‑day window after receiving our first charitable contribution, as state law requires.
