Heartpower Performances was a grant-funded project that brought music and participatory classes to at-risk populations up until 2018.

Heartpower Performances brings concerts and workshops to at-risk populations and family audiences. We offer many genres of music performed at the highest level for populations that have limited access to the arts in underserved areas of San Diego, Orange, Imperial and Riverside Counties.

I haven't shared on this page in a long while. Even though our project via SDSU is coming to a conclusion, all the bands continue to be of service to our at-risk communities. Today Jarabe Mexicano performed at the E. Dene Moore Care Center in Rifle, Colorado in order to kick off the Cinco de Mayo week in style for the senior citizens who reside there! A special thank you to Blair Bracken for making this happen.

Jarabe Mexicano performed at Fredericka Manor last week. These octogenarians couldn't contain themselves and had to dance to the rollicking Suavecito! Music is for everyone and Heartpower is designed to bring music to those who can't get out easily to hear it. Excellent work guys!

Last night we acknowledged the transformational gift left to SDSU Research Foundation in 1992 by Emeritus Faculty member, John Adams. 25 years later Jarabe Mexicano celebrates the fruits of his Million Dollar endowment at the Retirement Community where he spent the last years of his life, Fredericka Manor. Heartpower Performances and the student performers it has supported over the 25 years, has received $167,000 in Mini-grants from the John and Jane Adams Endowment. A big thank you to Debbie Brighton who helps us with this funding.

Remembering that freedom isn't free: Heartpower Performances brings the Ellie Lamson Band to recognize the veterans currently housed at the Vista Detention Facility. Some of the vets themselves perform so took the opportunity to jam with the band.
