Hello friends♥️ It’s been a bit since our zine fest, but the spirit rages on! Professor Bañales’s Riot Grrrl class is hosting an amazing virtual extravaganza- open mic, zine making, and more all happening on zoom this Friday the 15th! Hope to see some of you there 🙂

Smells Like Zine Spirit: UCSD Student Zine Fest - Nov 26 SMELLS LIKE ZINE SPIRIT is a celebration of student art and writing at UCSD, hosted by the students of LTWR 129 and featuring emerging student artists.

💥 WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING SIGNUPS FOR OUR OPEN MIC!!! 💥

Unlike sales table submissions, you do NOT have to submit work for consideration in order to partake in the open mic! All you have to do is put down your name and you will automatically be given time at the event to read or perform whatever you would like! Accepted zinesters will still be allowed to read at the open mic if they so choose, so don't be afraid to sign up if you've already submitted work for sale!

Signing up on this form prior to the event gives you first priority, but if you're not sure yet, don't worry -- we also accept day-of signups and volunteers once the event is already underway.

Ashlyn Higareda is a writer, artist, feminist, and animal lover. She is currently working on her first zine series “She is Always Out of Season” while studying literature at UC San Diego. If not out jamming with her band Drill Bit(ch), she often finds herself reading aloud to her fish, Wallpaper, or drawing all the dogs she dreams of having someday.

Her zines as well as her embroidery necklaces will be available at the event!

In the few weeks leading up to our event, we want to take the time to introduce you to the zinesters running the show! All of these authors are UCSD students taking part in distribution seminar LTWR 129, AND all of their work will be available for sale at the festival!

To help make this event possible, we are reaching out! Check out or share our gofundme page. Anything you can give will be immensely appreciated! Raising funds like this helps us to cover room costs and tech expenses while keeping table slots free for zinesters.

This event will go on whether we raise this amount of money or not -- it just helps lighten the financial load for the students organizing it! But never fear if you can't contribute; simply give what you can if you feel inspired to.

💥 WE ARE EXTENDING OUR SUBMISSION DEADLINE!!! 💥

For clarification, submissions should contain a few art pieces (zines preferred, of course) that you would wish to present and sell in our space! We are not a gallery event, but a festival for art sale, so accepted submissions should be prepared to bring copies of their artwork (not solely limited to what you may have submitted) for distribution and sale. Application and table spaces are still FREE! Don't be afraid to apply!

And not to worry if you already submitted in time for tonight's deadline -- you will have first priority and will still receive your submission decision by the end of the week! Thanks for your hard work and patience. 🧡

Hi everyone! Due to a scheduling hiccup, we've had to shift the date and time of our event, but no worries! We'll be meeting in the Price Center East Ballroom on Monday, November 26th, from 1-4PM. Looking forward to seeing everybody there!
