It is from under this pier in La Jolla, during a sunset like this, that I caught a glimpse of my future in a meditation and saw myself traveling the world teaching reading. .

We are very excited to share with you our recently edited Universal Reading Method Video. At one time we were call Yes, You Can Read, NOW. As you most likely know our company name is the Universal Reading Method. My dear friend, Richard Crawford did an excellent job with bringing us up-to-date.

Most people are not aware that when I was growing up and attending high school my reading and, especially, my comprehension was so poor that I refused to take any exams and received below average grades in most of my classes. When I, barely, graduated high school with a 1.95 average (4.0 is an A average) I had to go to our principal and beg her to let me graduate with the rest of our class. This was in 1968 and before I was able to be assessed and understand I was Dyslexic, had dyscalculia (problems with number) and ADHD. I sincerely believed I was lazy and dumb and was told so by my teachers.

I was able to keep my challenges with learning a secret by: becoming an incredible athlete, using my verbal skills when playing characters in plays and by being an artist excelling in ceramics, using a 'potters wheel' (the art of centering and pulling clay into the form of a pot or dish). In addition, I became the friend you could talk to and tell your problems to because I had a natural ability to understand psychological patterns and solve mysteries.

Did you know us Dyslexic folks do very well as psychological counselors, researchers and private detectives?
I was excellent at helping people in therapy and majored in Psychiatric Social Work and worked on a locked, acute psychiatric unit at a Mental Hospital. Although, I was superior in my psychology skills, I still was unable to read the material and pass my exams. It was very embarrassing and stayed my secret for the better part of my life.

I excelled at solving mysteries and became an Investigative Consultant (Being a licensed Private Investigator required taking an exam). Lucky for me, for 40 plus years no one asked. My attorney clients just assumed I was because I often, "pulled the bunny out of the hat for them" on a high percentage of their cases.

It wasn't before I was introduced to my brother, Doug Collins, reading course, did I realize just how challenged with reading I was. For me, it was like having severe cataracts and having surgery and immediately being able to read every word and not feel exhausted with the comprehension as I had always felt before.

I have written a book that goes into detail about our learners and my 2.5 year Reading Instruction Tour of the Continental The Reading Miracle and published it as an audio book, as well.
