The evidence for exercise and mental health continues to grow... this new study (a systematic review of reviews) -- published this month in the British Journal of Sports Medicine -- suggests exercise may be 1.5x MORE effective than talk therapy or medications for reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
This does NOT suggest you stop therapy or throw away your meds, but instead to view exercise as a CORE part of your treatment plan.
If you suffer from anxiety or depression (as I do; I'm on an SSRI), you will KNOW how hard it is to get your butt moving for exercise when all you want to do is slink away and shut out the world... Motivation GONE.... Enjoyment GONE... Self-loathing and Guilt goes through the roof from not pulling your weight in the household -- everything feels like a herculean effort.... I GET IT, BUT--
--TRY TO FIGHT BACK....
Think of exercise like MEDICINE and just try to get it started (10min, 15min, 20 min) . Even better if you have a friend who can drag you out.... :) Research also suggests that exercise in nature is even more powerful for combating rumination and worry than urban or gym-based exercise.
So where possible, try to sweat outside!

...and here's the actual study itself if you want to fact check the media hyperbole around these sorts of studies. These findings are real, repeatable, and impressive.
