π College Tour Season is Here β But Are You Asking the Right Questions?
π Most families walk away from campus tours knowing the dining hall hours and dorm square footage. But the students who find their best fit school? They come prepared with questions that actually matter β to them.
π Here's the secret: great questions start with self-awareness.
βοΈ Before you set foot on campus, ask yourself:
β What do I need to thrive academically?
β What kind of community do I want to belong to?
β What are my fears about college β and what would ease them?
Then turn those answers into questions:
π¬ "What does academic support look like for students who struggle in their first semester?"
π¬ "How easy is it to switch majors β and what does that process actually look like?"
π¬ "Where do students hang out on a random Tuesday night?"
π¬ "What's something you wish you knew before enrolling here?"
See the difference? These aren't Google-able. They reveal the real culture of a campus.
π‘ The best tour guide is the one you surprise with a question they have to actually think about.
Drop your best college tour question in the comments π and help other families think bigger.

π Over the next ten posts, Iβll be breaking down what makes each one unique, not the brochure version, but the real on-the-ground vibe I picked up while on my visit.

Every college rep throws around the term βholistic review.β But what does it actually mean for your student?
π Itβs not a formula. Colleges arenβt plugging in numbers and spitting out decisions. Think of it like a stool with multiple legs β GPA, essays, activities, recommendations, and life context all work together.
π No single factor dominates. A great essay wonβt save a weak transcript. But one rough semester wonβt close doors either. The full picture matters.
π‘ Hereβs what a UC admissions reader told me: βOur goal is not to reward past success β but to see how the student is going to engage in all that we have to offer.β
That reframe changes everything.
