Amid an uncertain funding landscape, UC San Diego raised $470 million in fiscal year 2025-26, as more than 20,000 alumni, donors and partners came together to advance research, faculty excellence and new opportunities for students.

Alumni played a significant role in supporting the university’s success this year, collectively giving more than $100 million to support priorities across campus. The generosity of alumni helped support the establishment of a new school, groundbreaking research, student scholarships and fellowships, and the Triton Alumni and Welcome Center, which will open in fall 2026. Part of the larger Triton Center project at the heart of campus, the Triton Alumni and Welcome Center will serve as a gathering place for alumni to return to their alma mater and further their impact as Tritons.

Jacobs School of Engineering alumna Deniz Burnham is headed for the Space Station πŸš€

Burnham, who earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from UC San Diego before being selected as a NASA astronaut in 2021, will embark on her first mission to the International Space Station, serving as an Expedition 76 flight engineer.

Her launch is targeted for March 2027. During her expedition, Burnham will conduct scientific investigations and technology demonstrations to help prepare humans for future exploration missions to the Moon and Mars and to benefit people on Earth.

Burnham joins a storied group of three other UC San Diego alumni (Jessica Meir, Kate Rubins and Megan McArthur) to complete training and serve in NASA’s astronaut corps. The first American woman to fly in space, Sally Ride, became a professor at UC San Diego after retiring from NASA.

Congrats, Deniz, on your selection as Expedition 76 flight engineer!

Congratulations to alumnus author Dan Santat on winning a coveted Eisner Award at Comic-Con International! His children's book, All The Hulk Feels, won Best Publication for Early Readers. πŸ†πŸ“š

β€œThirty years ago I was getting a biology degree at UC San Diego. It was my college roommates who encouraged me to pursue art for a living. San Diego Comic Con was the place that inspired me to become a writer. I remember sitting in the back room of my first Eisner Award banquet back in 1994 dreaming of being recognized for something I had written. Here we are full circle winning an award at the very convention that made me want to pursue my passion. This one feels special ❀️” -Dan Santat β€˜98
