Wishing a Happy 70th Birthday to Mexican hero, Oscar winner, and friend to everybody's sister, Speedy Gonzales.

Although his presence among the core Looney Tunes stable seems to vary from era to era depending on corporate whims and unfounded fears, Speedy is undoubtedly one of the more-unsung superstars from the studio, even keeping the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series alive during their darkest times.

Thankfully, most of his pre-1964 filmography has been remastered and released on disc, with the bulk of his shorts appearing on the "Golden Collection Volume Four" DVD set (https://amzn.to/3Qp6CZO). As of right now, the only pre-64 Speedy cartoon yet to be released on home video in the States is 1963's "Mexican Cat Dance," which has at least been remastered for Max and MeTV. Maybe for a future "Collector's Choice"...?
