Spanish Club Re-Brands

As the semester begins, the club will continue to exercise our mission, which is a multicultural group of students that disseminates information regarding Spanish culture and traditions. In addition, the clubs’ vision is to sponsor activities that promote understanding and goodwill among different ethnic groups and enhance creativity in diversity.

The Officers have decided to re-brand the club to focus on the following: Education, Employment and Community.

Education – As a club member, you will receive information on resources and services to overcome current hurdles as a student. What does that mean?
It means that you can obtain school materials at no cost, coaching/mentor that are SBVC Alumni and internship opportunities.

Employment – Members will have access to job hunting accessibilities. What does that mean?
It means that you will become aware of local organization, upon funding availability, to support you with transportation; as you travel to apply or interview for a job. It also means that you will obtain job leads with reputable businesses within the scope of Fortune 500. The job leads will match your skills, knowledge, abilities and/or current education. Once you are hired, you will continue to receive the tools to successfully retain employment.

Community – Involvement is a long-standing objective. We will continue to volunteer exclusively to improve the communities where we attend school, work and live in. Investment in our communities is just one of many ways the Spanish Club demonstrates our commitment to on-campus and off-campus academic relations.

From Chief Burguan:

Crime Concerns in San Bernardino -

The San Bernardino City Police Department recognizes that recent news coverage has likely increased concerns regarding crime occurring within our city limits. I want to share with you personally the statistics of where we stand, the resources being put toward decreasing crime, and how we can all help report crime.

It is true that there have been four homicides in the past week, bringing our total annual homicide count to 30, compared to 27 this time last year. Let me be clear: the recent homicides all have direct ties to illegal activities including drugs and gangs. SBPD is continuing daily proactive gang enforcement and targeted patrols. Gang sweeps are underway, which to date, have netted a significant number of arrests.

To help our efforts, we are asking our citizens for help to identify criminals and prohibit interactions with any individual known to be associated with ongoing criminal activities. If you witness or know of any gang related activity or can identify a gang member, please report it to the police department immediately by calling (909) 384-5742, or send a private message via Facebook or Twitter . Reports will be kept confidential; all reports will be investigated, and if proven to be accurate, can lead to arrests.
The wellbeing of residents and business owners is the number one priority for the San Bernardino Police Department. It is important to note that despite the recent occurrence of these specific activities, there is a significant decrease in the types of crimes are most likely to affect our city residents and businesses. Burglary and armed robberies have decreased by 17.72 percent and 14.69 percent, respectively.

Moving forward, we will continue to personally share updates and progress. With your support, we will make San Bernardino a safer city.
