Unofficial W***y Wonka Day at Urbita Elementary on October 1st. Students started their day with a sensory path, bubbles and music. All students in attendance received a Golden Ticket, which they then exchanged for a sweet treat bag! Lots of fun, giggles and learning happened! This attendance event was advertised and promoted--the next one will not be, so make sure your children do not suffer from FOMO and they attend school every day!!

Today we had 7 scholars participate in our Earth Day Saturday session. We worked collaboratively to make a poster, learned about how all the pollutants that go into our rivers and lakes can affect the fish that live there. We were shocked at what happened to our fish in the experiment 😢 We then planted some sunflowers to take home!
Our next session will be May 3rd—it will be awesome

Today we had 34 students learn about being an architect and using engineering to solve problems during our Saturday School session.

Before we did any of that, we made “thank you” cards for Aubree and Archer’s mom who graciously brought donuts for all of us this morning! So yummy!!

After we enjoyed our donuts, we created houses out of paper. Then we worked together in teams to solve the treehouse challenge. In order to complete the challenge, the treehouse needed to have a ladder, flooring, railings, a swing and a slide. We struggled a bit with working together, but in the end we had some great treehouses!

Lastly, we were in teams again and used straws and connectors to complete different challenges.

Our next sessions will be March 8 and March 15…be on the lookout for the QR code coming soon

Today we had 28 students attend our Saturday Session. We learned the ABCs of football, collected and analyzed data, saw who could "throw" their football the farthest and made our own goal posts. There was a lot of retrying and adjusting when the football did not go through the goal post and even more cheering when we were successful. Our next session will be February 22--hope to see you all there. Remember, the sign ups are digital now--if you need help, please be sure to stop by the office and they will be able to help you out.

Today, we had 32 students participate in our STEAM Saturday session. We learned about force and motion. We did an experiment with push and tried to get a ball to stick to the tape line--we weren't very successful the first time so we adjusted the amount of force we used and were able to get more balls to stick to the tape. After that experiment, we designed our car that was later used in an experiment on friction. We had a tunnel ramp with no obstacles and a tunnel ramp with sand paper at the end. We took turns trying to see whose car would go further. After one round, we realized that the sandpaper slowed our cars down. We kept the sandpaper, but added a little more height to our ramp and found that even though our cars still slowed down, they travelled further. We had a lot of fun!
Our next session will be February 8th--be on the lookout for the QR code to sign up

Today we had 44 students attend our Saturday School session. We made a snowman friend, learned about paper circuits, made a light up holiday card, got to pick out a present, and had pizza!! It was such a busy but fun day. Thank you to the Florez family, George and Jake's family and Desyn's family for donating the toys the children went home with today.
Our next session will be on January 25th!! Not all Saturday sessions will be like today's, but I can guarantee that the students will learn something and have fun! Hope to see you there
Enjoy the pictures!

Today, 30 students learned about the balloons that fly in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We learned that we can actually blow up a balloon without. using our own air and even made our own balloons to participate in Urbita's Thanksgiving Day Parade! See attached videos

Remember that if you would like your child to participate in any Saturday School experience, please make sure to let Ms Florez know--even if you did not receive an invitation and have no absences! We love having everyone show up, we just want to make sure enough food is ordered for everyone that does show up.

Our next session is December 7th--if your child attended ANY other session this year, please make it a point for them to attend on December 7th--it will be our holiday party and I would love to see everyone again. Even if they did not attend any session, please send in the permission slip OR send me a message on this post or through email to let me know they would like to attend.

Our next session of Saturday School will be November 16th!
If you would like your child to attend, please be sure to return the slip NO LATER THAN TUESDAY 11/12 (so I can order lunch for them). If you return the permission slip on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or even Saturday, your child MUST bring a lunch with them.
Our numbers are low and we could be in danger of cancelling this session--please turn in your slip ASAP if you want your child to attend!
Thank you so much!!

On Saturday, November 2nd, 23 scholars transformed into scientists and learned about bubbles. Throughout the session, we learned why bubbles pop and did an experiment to see if we could make "unpoppable" bubbles (or bubbles that lasted longer than the regular bubbles). We learned about the scientific method and were super excited to have fun with all our bubbles. The scholars were even able to take home some bubbles to "observe" at home!

Our next session is scheduled for November 16. Remember that these Saturday Sessions are designed to help students clear their absences, but everyone is welcome to attend--the more the merrier!!
