It was a great day at the 2026 Nacogdoches Blueberry festival! We did four recipe demos this year, and had a blast cooking up the blues!

It is always a blast partnering with Lori Fredrick, Nacogdoches County Extension Agent, and this year was no exception. Thank you for letting me be apart of this!

Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers, supporters, Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador Dalli Marlow, and SFA dietitian intern Abigail Young.

Extra special thank you to Lizzie & Gracie Carpenter for coming ALL the way from San Augustine to help with demos!

This image shows a critical safety difference: a forward‑facing car seat correctly installed with a top tether versus one without tether use and with a loose install.

In a crash, the tether anchors the top of car seat to the vehicle, reducing forward movement (or in techncial terms: head excursion) by 4–6 inches. That reduction can be the difference between a child’s head striking the vehicle interior—or not.

Using the top tether:
1. Limits how far the car seat and child move forward
2. Reduces stress on the child’s head, neck, and spine
3. Improves overall seat stability and crash protection

Always attach and snug-up the tether for forward‑facing car seats, and ensure the seatbelt or lower anchors and harness are snug.

A few inches matter—use every safety feature your car seat provides.
