Farewell to thee! but not farewell
To all my fondest thoughts of thee:
Within my heart they still shall dwell;
And they shall cheer and comfort me.
O, beautiful, and full of grace!
If thou hadst never met mine eye,
I had not dreamed a living face
Could fancied charms so far outvie.
If I may ne’er behold again
That form and face so dear to me,
Nor hear thy voice, still would I fain
Preserve, for aye, their memory.
That voice, the magic of whose tone
Can wake an echo in my breast,
Creating feelings that, alone,
Can make my tranced spirit blest.
That laughing eye, whose sunny beam
My memory would not cherish less; —
And oh, that smile! whose joyous gleam
Nor mortal language can express.
Adieu, but let me cherish, still,
The hope with which I cannot part.
Contempt may wound, and coldness chill,
But still it lingers in my heart.
And who can tell but Heaven, at last,
May answer all my thousand prayers,
And bid the future pay the past
With joy for anguish, smiles for tears? —Anne Brontë
With broken hearts, we express our deepest condolences to the family of our greatly loved and respected former YWLA teacher and assistant principal, Mrs. Jennifer Salazar Mugica, and to her husband, Carlos Mugica’s family, too. Her laughing eyes and beautiful smile lit up so many days for so many students. We lean into hope, as Jennifer always did.

Love receiving updates from our alumni.
From: Evelyn Ibarra YWLA ‘14, Texas State BS in Microbiology ‘18, Masters in Bioengineering ‘23 researched tissue engineering for congenital heart defects, now pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering (BME) doing diabetes research, the department rebranded from BioE to BME. She’s at CU Anschutz.
“I’ve been wearing the same lab coat since I was a freshman in high school.
I got it at a summer camp when I thought I was going to become a doctor. Years later, I ended up taking a different path and fell in love with research instead. That lab coat has somehow stayed with me through all of it, from undergrad, to moving to Colorado for my master’s, to now working on my PhD.
This week, I was teaching a tissue engineering activity I put together for a group of high school students at a BME summer camp while wearing that same lab coat.
I wish I had a picture of the first time I wore it. A full-circle moment 💝”
The student becomes the teacher! Summer programs in SA make a difference!
Share your updates Cardinals! Your younger sisters see themselves in you!🥳🎉♥️ Keep up the great work, Evelyn!
