🎶 Calling all Helotes veterans! There’s still time to join On-Corps at my alma mater, UTSA - The University of Texas at San Antonio.

What a special way to connect with other veterans, discover—or rediscover—the joy of making music, and be part of something truly meaningful right here in Military City USA.

If you’re a veteran who has ever wanted to learn an instrument—or if you played music years ago and would love to pick it up again—this is a wonderful opportunity.

On-Corps is UTSA’s beginning and intermediate concert and jazz band program created especially for veterans. And what makes it so special is that it’s about much more than music. Participants learn and play together, build friendships and camaraderie with fellow veterans, challenge themselves creatively, and become part of a community.

Since launching in 2022, On-Corps has grown from 23 members to more than 80 veterans. Participants have described the program as providing renewed purpose, meaningful connection and a positive outlet—and UTSA is studying its potential impact on veteran well-being.

No previous musical experience is required, and there is no cost for veterans to participate. UTSA provides instruction and loaned instruments. The program meets on Saturdays and gives veterans the opportunity to perform together as an ensemble.

It’s that time of year again!!!! Come on out to our annual HOT DOG HOWDY this Friday! The band will be debuting part of their show! Our band parents will be selling Sausage Hots Dogs graciously provided by Schott’s Meat Market and Helotes FD. Please note our concessions are CASH ONLY. Thank you and see y’all Friday!!! 💙

Tomorrow is our final day of band camp and the culmination of all our hard work in our Summer Band Finale!!
All Returning students and any Alumni joining us to play we ask that you grab your instrument and music and a stand and meet us in the gym at 4:45 for a quick warmup.
Finale will start close to 5pm

Beginning Band Parents- you will meet your beginner over at the gym side (opposite of where you dropped them off) to celebrate at the finale at 5pm!

We can’t wait to show off and celebrate the start of an amazing year!!

*don’t forget your $$ for some Kona Ice at the end of the finale (no food or drink in the gym please)

Sarah Martinez, a fine arts director, told us this was her favorite moment from our founder, Trina Martin's, TEDx talk: "This generation is going to have to invent their pathways. They're going to have to prove how they're better than a computer. That's going to take human skills: collaboration, creativity, communication, grit. And where's the best place to build those skills? The visual and performing arts."

When the people doing this work every day tell you which part landed, that's worth listening to.
