We are proud to share that the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA - The University of Texas at San Antonio / UT Health San Antonio) met its accreditation standards as a merged university, completing the required process for institutional-level accreditation for a merger as affirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

“This significant milestone reflects the continued and extraordinary dedication of our faculty, staff, healthcare providers and students and the strength of our ambition to be a new model for public higher education across the nation,” said UT San Antonio President Taylor Eighmy. “The affirmation of our accreditation reinforces our commitment to opportunity and excellence in academics, research, innovation and healthcare, while positioning UT San Antonio as a premier world-class university and health care system that will create impact at scale.”

The UT San Antonio School of Dentistry was recently featured in Becker’s Dental + DSO Review for it's role among institutions, DSOs and companies securing major investment.

UT Health San Antonio received a transformational $6.5M gift from Harvey E. Najim to launch the Pediatric Health Scholars Program, strengthening the pipeline of pediatric dental specialists across South Texas. The program also supports future leaders in medicine and nursing, expanding its impact across pediatric care.

A collaboration between scientists and students at the UT Health San Antonio's School of Dentistry and the Long School of Medicine is shedding light on a new approach to dental anesthesia. 🦷✨

Published in the Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the study, led by Greg Tuttle, DDS, includes student researchers Jared J. Tuttle (School of Dentistry) and Carter K. Newell (Long School of Medicine).

Together, the team explored an emerging approach to delivering local, fast-acting dental anesthesia while reducing the lingering numbness often associated with traditional techniques.

UT Health San Antonio scientists, including Brij Singh, PhD, associate dean of research at the UT San Antonio School of Dentistry, co-authored the article “Clock Genes Regulate Ca2+ Signaling and Mitochondrial Bioenergetics to Inhibit Sjögren Disease,” published in Arthritis & Rheumatology.

The study uncovers how circadian rhythm, calcium signaling and metabolism work together to regulate salivary gland function, and how disruptions in these processes may contribute to Sjögren disease. The findings provide new insight into salivary gland dysfunction and potential pathways for future therapies.

Congratulations to Josue "Josh" Murillo, a student in the COSTAR DDS/PhD program at the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry on being named a recipient of the 2026 American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research Student Research Fellowship.

Murillo is one of just 16 students nationwide selected for this prestigious fellowship, which supports the next generation of oral health researchers. His research focuses on understanding how stem cell-based approaches may help relieve dental-related pain.

Seven of our incoming senior Dental Hygiene students recently traveled to Camp Chrysalis in Kerrville, TX, to celebrate completing their first year of the program, marking the milestone with their very own “Camp 1/2 Hygiene” experience.

From sunrise yoga and hiking to high ropes, swimming and s’mores under the stars, this group had the chance to bond outside of the clinic and create unforgettable memories together before their senior year begins. 🌄 🔥

We’re so proud of how far they’ve come and can’t wait to see all they accomplish in their final year!
