The Texas Youth Hunting Program was established to increase the numbers of youths participating in wildlife and hunting and to promote the hunting heritage in Texas. The Texas Wildlife Association (TWA) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) have joined forces to offer youth hunts that are safe, educational and very affordable. We sponsor introductory, instructive youth hunts for deer, turkey, hogs, javelina, exotics, dove, small game, waterfowl, varmints and other species.

Happy July 1! Today, the TYHP calendar for the 2026-2027 hunting season is officially open! Head over to tyhp.org and start applying. Tomorrow we officially open our 30th hunting season here at TYHP. Thirty seasons in the field taking the next generation hunting. We have past youth hunters now bringing their own kids on hunts - THAT is a legacy. We are so thankful to each and every person who has ever been a part of TYHP in any way. We would not be here today if not for you.

Congratulations to TYHP Field Operations Coordinator Bob Barnette on being named the 2026 International Bowhunter Education Program Instructor of the Year!
The award was presented by Marilyn Bentz, Executive Director of the National Bowhunter Education Foundation, during the International Hunter Education Association Annual Meeting and Training Conference held June 2 in Glendale, Arizona.
In recognition of this achievement, Bob received a new Mathews ARC 34 compound bow signed by Matt McPherson, Founder and CEO of Mathews Archery.
Bob's dedication to hunter education and his commitment to introducing youth to safe, ethical hunting continue to make a lasting impact across Texas. We are proud to have him as part of the Texas Youth Hunting Program team.

Hunter Education Week is this month at Texas Wildlife Association’s Headquarters in New Braunfels. This is a great chance to get your child certified before the next hunting season kicks off! If you’re in Central Texas and looking to check Hunter Ed off your list (or just need a productive way to fill up a day of summer vacation), we’ve got you covered!
We’ll be hosting sessions June 8-13, including both classroom only and internet + field course formats. Spots are still available! Don’t forget, every TYHP hunter must complete Hunter Education before heading out on their hunt, so this is a great opportunity to get it all done in one place!

Our amazing volunteers are at it again!
TYHP Guide, Hunter Education Instructor, and Bowhunter Instructor Myranda Baker and TYHP Huntmaster & TPWD Area Chief, Sandy Mason attended Summerpalooza in Godley and Festival on the Hill in Burleson with a combine attendance of over 4,500!
We are always grateful for our volunteers who spread the word of TYHP and help educate the next generation.
