Today, we remember and honor the life of Isidore “I.G.” Griles, Jr., a man whose presence reached far beyond the stage. Through his music, his involvement in masonry, his remarkable talent, and the genuine kindness he shared with others, I.G. touched countless lives and left an imprint on the community that will not soon fade.
In 1993, I.G. joined Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights, and through the years, that bond grew into so much more than simply playing together in a band. He became family. His skill, dedication, warmth, and the joy he brought to every performance and gathering made him an unforgettable part of the Ten Sleepless Knights family.
His dedication to preserving and contributing to our cultural music was also recognized in 2021, when he was a recipient of the Dr. Stanley Jacobs Award for his contribution to our cultural music. It was a fitting recognition of a man who gave so much of himself to keeping our musical traditions alive for generations to enjoy.
Born and raised in Frederiksted, I.G. lived a life deeply connected to his family, community, culture, and especially deh music. For more than three decades with Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights, he helped create moments and memories that will continue to live through the music and the people fortunate enough to have shared them with him.
To his beloved family, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences. May you find comfort in the love surrounding you, strength in the memories you hold close, and peace in knowing that his life made a lasting and meaningful impact on so many.
His masonry, his music, his talent, and most importantly, the man he was will forever resonate in our hearts.
Rest peacefully, I.G. Though your time with us has ended, the music, memories, and legacy continue.
