Today we officially welcomed the newest members of our AHISD family at New Employee Orientation! They're getting to know each other and learning why there's No Place Like AHISD. We know they'll love it in their new home! 💛💙

Welcome Adia Hopes, new bilingual interventionist at Howard! 💛💙

This will be her 7th year in education and she joins us from Comal ISD. She earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M and master's degree from UTSA.

She loves to read, go on walks, and spend time with her husband and their pets.

"I’m beyond excited to join Alamo Heights ISD and become part of such a welcoming community that cares deeply about its students and families. As an educator, I love helping children grow as readers and learners, and I’m looking forward to working alongside amazing teachers and staff while building meaningful connections with students and families across the district!"

Welcome Lilyann Cazares-Mezquiti, new bilingual special education teacher at Cambridge! 💛💙

She has spent 24 years as an educator in Laredo, Austin, San Antonio (most recently at Keystone School), New York City and Brooklyn. Her undergraduate degree is in early childhood education and her master's degree is in education specializing in instructional technology.

Her hobbies include cooking, photography, travel and watching her boys play basketball. She's been married for almost 25 years and has two sons and three cats.

"I'm excited to join a dynamic team of talented teachers and a supportive community comprising a unique school district."

Welcome Veronica Rendon, new 2nd grade Spanish Immersion teacher at Woodridge! 💛💙

She has been in education for 20 years and she joins us from Northside ISD. She earned her bachelor's degree from UT Brownsville and master's degree from Concordia University.
Veronica enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two sons (the oldest son will be joining us at Howard in kinder!), reading, and a good cup of coffee.

Today, Dr. Bashara and AHISD leaders (AKA our Mule Pack!) hosted a lunch to say a super-sized THANK YOU to our AH-mazing Maintenance/Grounds, Custodial, Transportation, and Technology teams — the behind-the-scenes heroes who keep our schools running strong every single day and who have worked tirelessly this summer especially in support of bond construction projects. 💪

Hotdogs and hamburgers were served with a side of appreciation and a whole lot of heart. 💙🍔💛🌭

We couldn't do it without them! Thank you!

Our AHISD leadership teams spent two days together preparing for an AH-mazing new school year and beyond! 💙💛

From team building and tackling topics like customer service, academic achievement and protecting our unique culture, the discussions were all about fostering the opportunity, character, and community that are truly the Heart of Heights.

There is so much to be proud of in AHISD, and we can’t wait to welcome our students and staff back home! 🐴🆙

Welcome Ruth Wrubel, new ELA teacher at Alamo Heights Junior School!

This will be her 25th year in education and she joins us from Smithson Valley HS. She has spent the majority of her years teaching English at the middle school level and is excited to return to her first love of helping students excel in reading and writing.

She's a graduate of the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma, is a Texas Longhorn by marriage, and also roots for the team of her birth, the Arkansas Razorbacks

Ruth enjoys spending time with her family, especially her first granddaughter who also lives in San Antonio.

"I feel so honored to be joining the amazing staff at Alamo Heights to be able to participate in continuing the strong traditions of excellence for which it is known."
