Today we received a notice from Facebook that our page may be deactivated due to lack of activity. Hopefully, this posting will prevent that.

Yesterday we received an instruction from Facebook to consider reclassifying the Busen as "Education -- Religious". It therefore seems appropriate to clarify this issue.

The Busen is NOT a religious institution, nor does it intend to provide instruction in any particular religion or its practices. However, a fundamental and essential aspect of instruction in classical budo is instruction in the morality of using lethal force and techniques for protection of oneself and others, as well as the personal application of the principles of Bushido.

Therefore, for the sake of clarity, and because we welcome students and faculty of all religious (and non-religious) backgrounds, instruction at the Busen will often include comparison and contrast of the principles and application of Bushido to the tenets of many of the world's major religions. The purpose of these comparisons is not to promote a particular religion, but to aid students who hold various religious beliefs in understanding the extent to which the moral principles of budo are consistent or inconsistent with the beliefs they already hold.
