One year ago today (Sep 21st, 2023) Nik Romano was in a traffic accident that took his life. Nik meant a lot of things to a lot of different people and the texture he added to our lives and our time at CAHS will never be forgotten. From his bright, mischievous smiles, to his passion for Halloween and music, and the generosity and care he extended to everyone in his life, Nik impacted all of us in one way or another. Nik and I became close later in our high school career, but I will always remember the rides home he gave me, how he would make us drive extra far just to eat good food (and then always paid for our meals), and the time he made me fall down laughing in Paris. In spirit of Nik, who never did anything traditionally and would roll his eyes at a formulaic tribute to his life, I would like to instead use this space to encourage you all to take a moment today and live the "Nik Way" - head bang to a song you love, dance a little too hard, shoot you can even lie at a restaurant and tell them it’s your birthday to get free cake! Do something spontaneous and silly and remember Nik.
