For Southwest High School senior Joseph Herrera, being named captain of the Dragon Fire Dance Team is more than just a title. “I am actually the captain for next year, and it's pretty cool because I am the first ever male captain in Southwest ISD history,” he said. “It's what I aspired to do, and I'm finally able to show it off for all the hard work that I've done.”
While making history is exciting, he says the true magic of Dragon Fire comes from the team's culture. “We support each other no matter what. We're never embarrassed to dance in front of each other, go full out, or just be ourselves. We all have different personalities, but somehow we create this magic together.”
Looking ahead, he hopes every member of Dragon Fire feels the same sense of belonging that inspired him. “We're like a close family, and we honestly love each other so much,” he said. “You can always be comfortable here, no matter who you are or where you come from. We expect you to grow and become the person you always want to be.”

The heat and hard work are picking up at the Southwest Legacy Strength and Conditioning Camp. For Titans basketball senior Jordan Rodriguez, the goal is clear: to help lead the Titans back to the playoffs. As the team continues its offseason training, Jordan is embracing his role as one of the team's senior leaders. He is focused on becoming a stronger leader both on and off the court by encouraging his teammates to work hard every day, stay focused, and trust the process throughout the season. Jordan knows there will be challenges along the way, but he believes the Titans can accomplish their goals by staying united and not letting tough losses define them. Off the court, Jordan enjoys history and government classes and is focused on making the most of his final year of high school. Before the summer ends, he has a few trips planned, including visits to St. Louis and Memphis. For now, Jordan's attention remains on preparing for the season and helping the Titans take the next step as they work toward a return to the playoffs.
