High Voltage Music Program

This week marks our OFFICIAL 10th year as a NO COST on-campus after-school music program in underserved schools, removing any financial barriers that may keep youth from learning to play music!

Personal statement:
For the past ten years, I have been the CEO and Program Director of High Voltage Music, Inc. Being the founder is something that I don't take lightly because of the responsibility I have to our students, parents, funders, and facilities. I am extremely lucky to have made friends since my younger years with so many musicians and artists whom I am still good friends with (along with private and corporate funders), who have all helped in making this program possible. THANK YOU on behalf of myself, our instructors, and our present and past students.

There are MANY people to thank for helping us get through our journey in all capacities.
First, to my son for being the inspiration to initiate something our community lacked. What I started for him to meet like-minded musical peers quickly became for all youth. He now instructs on occasion as he continues his musical journey.

FEATURING ARTIST Marcy McChesney who is donating a piece of her fantastic collage art for the Silent Art Auction happening Cherrity Bar on 9/19 benefiting High Voltage Music Program SA !
(This is not the art that will be up for auction, but an example of work by this awesome artist.)

Marcy McChesney:
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Marcy McChesney made her way to California after completing her primary education. She spent over ten years in California, showcasing her paintings in various local coffee houses, bars and galleries from San Diego to San Francisco. 

In 2001, she returned to San Antonio to pursue her Bachelor of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at San Antonio and completed in the spring of 2004. In 2016 after completing a series of collages, she fell in love with the process and never looked back, deciding to immerse herself in everything collage.

Throughout her career Marcy has had solo exhibitions in the United States, Mexico and Europe, and has been selected for many juried shows at galleries including Arte Contemporáno and La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles. Her artwork has been featured in publications such as "Is This Forever or What?: Poems and Paintings from Texas" by Naomi Shihab Nye and she designed the cover for Jo LeCouer's book of poetry, "Medicine Woods".

Marcy was a 2024 Individual Artist Grant Recipient for The City of San Antonio and most recently completed an artist residency at the Kolaj Institute in New Orleans. Marcy's artwork has featured in publications such as American Craft Magazine and The San Antonio Express News, among others. 
Today, Marcy McChesney is one of San Antonio's top creative collage artists.

KARL LUBBERING (Klube) is an American Abstract and Folk Artist born in San Antonio, TX, best known for his dynamic large-scale public pieces.

His vibrant graphic works are filled with colors and characteristics of his birth place that can be best described as surrealistic and “Mod Folk Art."

Klubes' influences are Joan Miro, Picasso, various Stained Glass artist works, and Cartoon art from childhood books.

KLube is also a talented and skilled musician who has performed locally since the 1980s, all the while working on developing his original art. After a hiatus, he's back on local stages since 2021, writing, recording, and performing solo gigs or playing with backup musicians who are collaborators and longtime friends.
