Today, the SACHS community lost a legend, and heaven gained an angel.

Coach Frank Vavala — “Coach Vav” — passed away last night after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his beloved boys.

No words are good enough, and no action great enough, to fully express what this man meant to the SACHS community. The very mention of his name unleashes countless heartfelt memories — whether it was catching the familiar smell of Long Cut Wintergreen as you walked into his office, or hearing him tell you to get “Fost free in ya” before hitting the football field.

Coach Vav gave confidence to many, taught life lessons that still resonate, and left a mark that time cannot erase. The world is better because he was in it, and his legacy will forever live on in the SACHS family.

Rest in peace, Coach Vav. ❤️🖤

Public Viewing beginning at 6:00pm followed by the Rosary at 7:00pm
Wednesday May 14th, 2025 @ Sunset Memorial Funeral Home (1701 Austin Highway, SATX 78218)

Funeral Mass at 10:30am on Thursday May 15, 2025 @ St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church (1602 Thousand Oaks, SATX 78232)

The interment is a private event.

After mass, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering at 1:00pm at Campanas Amenity Center (3650 TPC Parkway)

Dear Alumni Family,

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of the great Robert “Bob” Niehoff this morning. From Alumni Circle in the morning, to the St. Anthony Chapel, to the 3rd floor hallway, you could hear him always say his signature line “Let’s Go Get Smart!” Or to always have a great day. He loved teaching and his students, and always brought a smile to your face no matter what type of day a student was experiencing. He will greatly be missed by many of our Yellow Jacket Family.

Please keep Mrs. Nancy Niehoff and the Niehoff Family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

The SACHS Alumni Association regrets to announce the passing of Fr. Edward Vrazel.

Rev. Vrazel, OMI, (1932-2024) died Friday morning, October 11, 2024, at Oblate Madonna Residence.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

When you think of St. Anthony Catholic High School numerous memories flood back of various experiences, teachers, and classmates. One particular teacher that stands out for numerous SACHS Alumni is U.S. History teacher and coach Wayne Jordan. Coach Jordan as he was affectionately known can be remembered for his various one liners, most memorable was his "Alright men!"
Today Coach Jordan departed this life and went "on to glory". The lives he touched through his teaching and education will ensure his spirit lives on. Coach Jordan we will miss you and know that we all loved you. We'll see you again down by the river.

Please join us in honoring the memory and celebrating the life of our Beloved Alumni, Coach, Teacher and Friend, John “JG” Gonzales.

The Gonzales Family has also asked us to let everyone know there will be only one eulogist for the Funeral. They will allow others to speak, share memories and stories at the Reception following the Rosary in the St. Anthony Gym.
