The women who landed at Normandy.
Once airstrips had been established in the Allied operating area, American Skytrains and British Dakotas began not only bringing in supplies, but evacuating wounded. Pictured here are the first British WAAF orderlies, Leading Aircraftwoman Myra Roberts, Corporal Lydia Alford, and Leading Aircraftwoman Edna Birbeck selected to fly on air ambulance duties to France posing before a Dakota Mk III of No. 233 Squadron RAF at B-2 Bazenville Advanced Landing Ground in Normandy.
Do you know what WAAF stood for?
