Today, we honor the meaning behind the red poppy — a symbol of sacrifice, remembrance, and service.
On National Poppy Day, Utah Girls State joins communities across the nation in remembering the brave men and women who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms. Their legacy inspires us to lead with courage, serve with purpose, and stand up for something greater than ourselves.
As we celebrate leadership, citizenship, and 80 years of ALA Utah Girls State, we proudly wear the poppy in gratitude to those who made our future possible. ❤️

Hello
I’m Marcie Mojica, mom of 4 kids and 2 dogs. I ❤️Girls State!! I went back in ahem…1990. Watch out for me in the halls on my scooter or wheelchair. I’ve been labeled a bad driver at times. I live in Kaysville, and grew up in Tooele with Director Jenn.
I love music, funeral potatoes, naps and I think I’m funny(but my kids would beg to differ)
Can’t wait to meet you all!

Hello Matheson City Citizens!
My name is Sarah King and I am one of your team counselors this year. I attended ALA Utah Girls State as a citizen in 1998 and have loved the program even more as I have come back as support staff, Jr Counselor and finally, as a Counselor for Matheson City for the past 5 years. Matheson City was my city as a Girls State citizen, so it holds a special place in my heart.
I have been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for my whole life. I love honoring and serving Veterans and their families. I love anything Disney and Flamingos. Stargate and Star Trek are other loves of mine. I have 4 kids and an amazing supportive husband. My youngest, Alice, is a competitive dancer, I love watching her learn & grow. I love to cross-stitch and even have a youtube channel that shows my stitching progress.
I love camping and traveling, especially to Disneyland.
I am so excited to be your counselor this year! You are stronger than you know!

HI, HO, HI, HO, It's off to Herbert City we go. The counselors of Herbert City are the sister duo Ashley Riddle and Chesney Galindo. We both attended Utah ALA Girls State. Ashley attended in 1995 and she was in Mabey City. Chesney attended in 1998 and she was in Bamberger City. Between the two of us we have over 22 years on staff. We have both been junior counselors, support staff, and counselors. This year for the first time in Girls State history we are co-conspirators together. Ashley teaches English to middle and high school students, while Chesney teaches special education to elementary school students. We are the daughters of Vietnam Veterans, who both proudly served in the US Air Force.
We look forward to spending the week with you at ALA Utah Girls State.

I have been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 48 years.
The Girls' State program has been one program of the American Legion Auxiliary that I have volunteered in for 31 years, becoming the Director in 1991 and again in 1992.
I joined the American Legion Auxiliary to help the veterans and their families who have served our great country. My reason for joining, my father was a pilot and killed in WW2. I never knew my father and felt that he gave his life for our country, that we could life free. Now it is my turn to give.
