Kestrel pairs have been overtaking campus for the last month and we couldn't be more excited about it! While monitoring the Great Horned Owls nesting at Ute Stadium, I heard this couple screaming their territorial call while perched right over the football field.

For any interested in the national Kestrel projects underway:

Dave Oleyar, HWI Senior Scientist, will be sharing useful information about the American Kestrel project. This meeting will give you information needed to understand why we are doing the project, what we have learned, and where the project is heading. Some food and drinks will be provided for the meeting.

The meeting is Thursday January 21, 2016 at 5:30pm at the HWI office: 2240 South 900 East Salt Lake City, UT 84106.

Kestrels on Campus is well underway after a successful nest box building session on campus yesterday! We had 13 volunteers come out for a total of 91 volunteer hours to finish building 12 nest boxes for American Kestrels, North America's smallest species of falcon.

The first nest box was tough, but it turned into quite the competition after everyone got the hang of it. Some groups even added fancy handles to the collection doors and one got a porch! Beautiful boxes group!

Next step is placing the nest boxes around campus, which will happen later this month! Follow our progress or come get involved yourself!
