It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Patrick Marino, beloved owner of Lit’l Scholars.
There will be a Celebration of Life to honor him on June 28th. Details regarding the time and location are still being finalized, and we will share more information as soon as it’s available.
Patrick touched the lives of so many, and we hope you’ll join us in remembering and celebrating the incredible person he was. The impact he made in the lives of your children, our educators, staff, and the Child Care industry is just incredible.
We are keeping Patrick’s family, friends, and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

MEET OUR LEADERS!
Haley Bemis - Executive Director
Haley has been with Lit’l Scholars for 12 years. WOW! That’s a long time! But as Haley says —“Time flies when you’re having fun!” And she feels nothing short of that as she says she truly has enjoyed all of her 12 years at Lit’l Scholars. Haley started in 2011 where she began with us as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher. She maintained this position and was a phenomenal teacher until she was promoted to Preschool Coordinator in 2015. She was working in this position at both locations at the time which were located in Taylorsville and Salt Lake City. Haley says she enjoyed her time as a Preschool Coordinator but was welcomed with open arms and a promotion to Director in 2019. Fast forward to January 2023 Haley was promoted to Executive Director, and we are so glad she was! Haley oversees our administration and leadership teams, as well as doing our marketing, networking, accounting and is Crawford’s right hand man when it comes to business management. The two of them have formed an alliance that we consider a force to be reckoned with. They have maintained a solid foundation in their management styles and continue to develop and grow their ability to deliver quality leadership skills to all clients and staff in our care.
Haley is currently ONE semester away from graduating with her Associates Degree in Family and Human Studies, and we couldn’t be more proud of her! She has navigated motherhood, a full time career, and school so beautifully. Haley states she would like to take a couple of years off of school after she graduates with her Associates to spend her newly found free time with her family, and then plans to go back to get her Bachelors. Haley enjoys spending time outside of work with her husband and two children Harley (12) and Declan (6). Haley likes to vacation and go new places, and tells us she is gearing up for her next family vacation to Bear Lake soon. Much time deserved away from the office! Haley also says she likes to go to country concerts, and says that she looks forward to attending more of them in the future. Haley says that the one thing she is most grateful for, when it comes to her time here at Lit’l Scholars is the promotion from within and the investment they make in people like herself to get connected to life changing opportunities. She feels as if Lit’l Scholars truly does want to see their employees become who they want to become and give every chance they can to invest into the success of their people.
Haley may not be a face you see as often anymore, but just know she is behind the scenes working at great lengths! Haley will attend bi-weekly and sometimes monthly meetings with statewide leaders and representatives debating and deciding on important ways to improve childcare in the state of Utah. Haley has been to a handful now since her promotion and has implemented great policies into our program, and are excited to see what else her and Crawford can bring to our facility to make Lit’l Scholars the best!
Haley has had such a significant organizational impact to our business since taking over, and we are just so happy to have her here! We believe our leadership team truly has the best qualities to provide quality child care and we just feel so lucky to have them both apart of our family.

Crawford Shanks - Director
Crawford has been with Lit’l Scholars for 4 years, and has been a valuable addition to our business and leadership team for the last year. Crawford was promoted to our management team as Assistant Director in 2022 and since then was promoted again to Director in January of 2023. She started with us as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher in 2019 and has climbed the ladder since and we are thrilled to have this amazing leader on our team! Crawford currently manages all of the functions of our business, employees, clients, and so much more with Haley Bemis our Executive Director. The two of them have been a united, dedicated, and strong leadership team for the last year at Lit’l Scholars and we cannot wait to see where the future takes them.
Crawford is currently pursuing her Associates Degree in Family and Human studies at Salt Lake Community College and wishes to pursue her Bachelors degree at The University of Utah afterwards. She spends most of her time outside of work with her family hanging out at home, going to parks, and exploring the outdoors. She enjoys traveling to see her family both in Alabama and Ohio with her son and fiancé. She has a 5 year old son named Wyatt, who attends Lit’l Scholars. Crawford says that one of her greatest accomplishments both professionally and personally as a parent has been to pursue success, growth, and finding a career she enjoys while in the same place she gets to witness all of her sons growth and accomplishments simultaneously. She says that being a working mom and maintaining a full time job at Litl Scholars is something she will forever be thankful for. Crawford states that Lit’l Scholars has facilitated much opportunity for her to grow and develop professional relationships and has learned so much throughout her employment so far and is excited for future opportunities and experiences at Lit’l Scholars.
Crawford and Haley spend time attending conferences both in the area and out of the area to receive up to date information and knowledge of childcare today. They work hard via marketing, networking, attending board meetings, committee meetings, and implementing new strategies, programs, and policies that Lit’l Scholars can benefit from to make Lit’l Scholars the best possible environment for all children to Explore, Learn, and Grow!
Crawford continues to strive to meet the needs of all clients, employees, vendors and third party services to make Lit’l Scholars the best in the Valley! Crawford has done an exceptional job at managing our rather big facility that houses 140 children and families, and 25 employees! Keep up the great work!

We wanted to do a big reveal, but we are waiting on parts for our new sinks and faucets to be installed, so this will just be a pre-finished bathroom remodel update! They look SO much better and we are so pleased with the outcome. Thank you for being so understanding with all we have had to do to make this remodel work! As we are in the final stages, we want to shout out .estate.project for their amazing work!
On to our next project to make Lit'l Scholars the best of the best! Thank you for your continued support and patience as we are finding new ways to improve our building and program 😃

Parents, unfortunately we are closing for the day. There are a couple of children here and we are coordinating with their parents right now. We have never closed due to weather but the priority of our staff and clients safety is and always will be number one. Thank you for understanding this extremely difficult to decision to make, and we will see you all tomorrow. Please be safe out there.
