This week for Black History Month, Beta Mu Lambda proudly highlights our distinguished brother, Donny Hathaway.

A legendary soul singer and pianist, Brother Hathaway was initiated into the Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha at Howard University in 1965 — exemplifying scholarship, artistry, and Black excellence.

His timeless classics like “A Song for You” and “This Christmas” continue to shape the sound of R&B and soul music. He earned a Grammy Award for his iconic duet “Where Is the Love” with Roberta Flack and received multiple Grammy nominations throughout his career. His live album Donny Hathaway Live remains one of the greatest live soul recordings ever released.

Brother Hathaway’s legacy is a testament to the power of talent, education, and brotherhood.

This Black History Month, the brothers of Beta Mu Lambda proudly honor trailblazers whose legacies continue to shape our nation. This week, we highlight Brother Thurgood Marshall — a man whose courage in the courtroom transformed the fight for justice and equality.

Initiated into the Nu Chapter at Lincoln University in 1926, Brother Marshall went on to become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice.

Bro. Marshall was a leading civil rights attorney who successfully argued the historic Brown v. Board of Education (1954) case, helping the Supreme Court declare school segregation unconstitutional. He also won 29 of the 32 cases he argued before the Supreme Court, solidifying his reputation as one of the most influential lawyers in American history.
