Get the Flock Out Protest & Press Event🚨

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office wants to expand its camera network in unincorporated areas, outside city limits. The plan adds 40 new automated license plate readers (ALPRs), bringing the total from 63 to 103 cameras countywide.

These cameras use AI to record license plates, car colors, makes, and models; tracking individual movement.
The cost: nearly $2.8 million over 10 years. Year one is free, then $309,000 a year for nine more years, a 10-year contract with a cancellation policy so steep it locks the county in no matter what harm this system causes.

Nobody’s safer with 103 cameras tracking their car. We just get watched more. Sheriff Nieto wants to call this safety. But we call it what it actually is: a surveillance network that isn’t going anywhere once it’s built.

The Board of Supervisors votes on this 9/22. We’re showing up first.

one of these guys already knew. the bucking strap is animal abuse — no hesitation.

the other one? had no idea what it even was. we handed him the flyer and watched him read it in real time, his response might shock you: “wow, this is really fu**ed up” pretty much sums it up.

because here’s what it actually does: it restrains the animal’s ge****ls, tight, on purpose, to force a bucking reaction. And no we’re not being dramatic, that’s literally what he read.

and his additional response? “i’d rather be castrated than have this happen to me.”

Can we just take that in for a sec? a grown man said he’d choose castration over what is done to bulls and horses for “entertainment” or “sport.”

we didn’t bleep any of this because if you can’t handle hearing what it is, maybe don’t defend the rodeo doing it to an animal that can’t consent, right?

Part 1.
We went to old town Salinas right before rodeo week and interviewed some folks.
First, he was excited for VIP- then, we talked about the bucking strap and told him what it’s actually for. He had no idea what it was. And once he found out? disgusted. but not surprised.
This is the reaction we keep getting. people aren’t shocked that rodeos hurt animals. they’re shocked at exactly how, and exactly how normalized it is.

Our first parade!!! 🥹🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🔥

Roots of Resistance marched in and we are still feeling every single moment of it. The joy. The color. The love. The people. This is what we build for.

As a q***r person of color, marching in this parade meant something I don’t have the words for yet 🥹
To be surrounded by so much joy, so much pride, so much unapologetic love and acceptance; it reminded me exactly why we created this space. Our communities deserve to be celebrated just as loudly as we are called to resist. Liberation has to include all of us- our full selves, our full identities, our full humanity. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✊🏽

Q***r liberation is community liberation. And we are so honored to stand alongside our LGBTQIA2S+ siblings in this movement. 💛

To everyone who showed up and marched with us, who has cheered us on from day one, who has supported Roots of Resistance through every action, every late night, every moment of doubt and every moment of joy — THANK YOU!!! None of this exists without you. We mean that with everything we have 🥹💛

We are just getting started. And we cannot wait to be back next year ❤️‍🔥🔥

Yesterday, hundreds showed up from throughout the state to take a stand and say NO! to the planned ICE Detention Facility in Gilroy, marching through the city and holding a rally at the planned site. But the fight will continue, so please join us in showing that we the people are powerful when we come together. We will continue to share ways to be involved and we will always stand with ALL our marginalized communities to let them know we are here for them and demand Human Rights for ALL

✊🏽 This is our first year participating in local pride events
(as ROR, that is) and we believe it is critical to invite community members to join us to build relationships with all!

🫱🏽‍🫲🏻 Building community is not about gatekeeping or only reserving these spaces for those “part of” a larger group. 💅🏽 No matter how you identify- we invite YOU to join us in the march on 6/27.
