Missed the WUSD Board Meeting on Wednesday, August 12? We’re sharing highlights from the meeting to help keep our community informed and connected to the important work happening across Washington Union School District. Take a look at the key updates and decisions from the meeting below.

TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD TIME:

Mr. Mutshnick and Miss O’Mary introduced their new employees. Mr. Mutshnick welcomed Krista Estassi, Jose Pimentel, and Rachel Repass. Miss O’Mary welcomed Cassandra de Lorimier.

Miss O’Mary recognized all of the students who achieved English Proficiency on the spring 2026 English Learner Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC).

COMMUNITY INPUT:

Ms. Jen Frazier announced that Mrs. O’Mary did considerable work to decorate the new staff lounge at San Benancio MS and stated that it has become a very productive and positive space.

Karen McCall, on behalf of the First-Grade Teachers, extended an open invitation to observe their CKLA lessons any day from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.

DISCUSSION/INFORMATION ITEMS:

Enrollment: Current enrollment is 574 students.

Curriculum: Miss O’Mary reported on the district’s curriculum activities, including an update on professional development plans, curriculum updates, and the Science pilot.

ACTION ITEMS:

The Board took action to approve the following:

Resolution 2026-27-01 Establishing Temporary Interfund Transfers of Special or Restricted Fund Moneys
Classification of Records as Class 3 (Disposable)
Destruction of Class 3 Records
Classification of District Records as Class 1 (Permanent)
Updated Board Policies

November 4
December 16 (this was amended from the original meeting date of December 9th due to election rules)

Today is the first day of school, and we are so excited to welcome students back for another incredible year at Washington Union School District!

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, we look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, new friendships, and memorable experiences. Whether your student is walking into school for the very first time or returning for another great year, we're so happy they are here!
