The No More Child Poverty Act is headed to the Senate Appropriations Committee!
Authored by Assemblymember Mia Bonta, establishes the California Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council to measure, track, and accelerate progress toward ending child poverty.
California has already made significant progress by implementing 41 of the 43 recommendations from the End Child Poverty Plan, investing billions to help children and families thrive. As federal policies threaten to increase poverty and deepen inequities, AB 1996 helps keep California focused on data-driven solutions and bold investments that put children first.
Thank you, Assemblymember Mia Bonta, for your leadership in advancing a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

🎉The CA Assembly budget is out, and place-based initiatives are in!

These community networks create strong connections across neighborhoods to make sure no child or family falls through the cracks. They are successful and rely on our continued support!
Speaker Robert Rivas, and Chair Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel for championing these critical investments in place-based solutions that help children, families, and communities thrive.

Now we urge Governor Gavin Newsom and Pro Tem Senator Monique Limón to stand in solidarity with the Assembly and ensure Promise Neighborhoods and other place-based initiatives remain in the final budget.

🎉 A major step forward: AB 1996, authored by Assemblymember Mia Bonta, has advanced to the Senate!
AB 1996 establishes the California Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council, putting California back on a path to measuring, tracking, and accelerating progress toward ending child poverty.
This moment builds on years of advocacy and community leadership. The End Child Poverty in California Coalition was formed in response to the landmark Lifting Children and Families Out of Poverty Act (AB 1520, 2017)—a grassroots-driven victory that sparked historic investments in children and families across our state. Since then, California has made full or partial progress on 41 of the 43 recommendations in the End Child Poverty Plan, investing billions to help families thrive.
Poverty is not inevitable, it is a policy choice. And so is ending it.
As federal policies threaten to push more families into poverty and deepen racial inequities, California has an opportunity and a responsibility to continue leading with bold, evidence-based investments that put children and families first.
AB 1996 helps ensure we stay focused on our north star: ending child poverty in California. Thank you, , for your leadership and commitment to a data-driven, equitable future for all children. Onward to the Senate!
