Salina South Middle School Crowns "Guitarists of the Year"

We are incredibly proud to announce this year’s Guitarist of the Year award winners! This honor is the highest achievement in our guitar program, recognizing students who go above and beyond in their technical skills, leadership, and daily discipline.

Throughout the year, students earn "Pride Stickers" for weekly test "A's," earning first-chair honors, and submitting top-tier practice assignments. Only one student from each level is selected for this top honor based on their total sticker count.

Congratulations to our 2026 Winners:
Jayden – Advanced Guitar
Zach & Zaida (TIED!) – Level 1 Guitar

All three of these students have set a standard of excellence, consistently demonstrating the power of hard work. They all were standout leaders this semester, bravely taking on multiple bass and electric guitar solos; inspiring their peers. Their names will be permanently added to the "Guitarist of the Year" plaque at SMS!

A Special Thank You to Our Community Partners
The "Guitarist of the Year" award is made even more special thanks to the Historic Stiefel Theatre and the generous donors to the Mike Finnigan School of Music Scholarship Fund.
Because of their support, all three students have been awarded FULL SCHOLARSHIPS to continue their musical journey with summer guitar classes at the Mike Finnigan School of Music in July.

As summer approaches, I will be teaching several guitar workshops at the Stiefel Theatre for students who would like to continue their learning. Those classes meet during the month of June. There are several week-long workshops on a variety of topics and also a two week performance camp where students meet for two weeks and conclude with a concert much like what you saw last night, but on the Stiefel stage!
