Last day of chess club at Sumpter! It's been a wonderful school year and I'm proud of all of them. We played more chess variants today: triangle chess, bughouse and duck chess (the kids did not seem to like duck chess 😆)

I always recommend playing in the rated tournaments. They will be offering free USCF memberships (new or renewal) for scholastic players!

McMinnville Chess Club – McMinnville Chess Tournament at McMinnville High School We are excited to announce our next McMinnville Chess Tournament on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, from 9am-5pm. Join us! We will have USCF-rated and -unrated sections for both Scholastic Youth and Adults.

Update on the June 27th Willamette Classic tournament:

The event is full as of May 6th. I'm honestly a little surprised that it filled up so fast - We have a wonderful chess community!! ❤️

Personally, I am very excited about this tournament and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's costumes (optional, of course...) We have a good mix of adults and kids of varying skill levels which I love to see. This is how we learn and grow. I will be preparing puzzle challenges in between rounds and I will strive to make them harder than the one we had at the last tournament! 😆
