We’re excited to share that Ste. Genevieve Elementary School occupational therapist Kari Buerck and speech-language pathologist Ashley Regelsperger recently received a $500 PEERS Maggie Elders Grant through the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Foundation (MRTA-F) for their new project, “Fun Food Friday!” ✨ SG R-II will match the grant, providing a total of $1,000 to help get the program cooking!

Through this weekly cooking group, special education students will get hands-on practice building communication and essential life skills while following recipes, making choices, learning new vocabulary, taking turns and preparing food. Students will also work on fine motor skills, coordination and independence along the way!

Grant funds will help purchase cooking supplies, adaptive utensils and ingredients for the weekly activities.

MRTA Region 11 Vice President Denise Wright and associate MRTA member Dale Wright presented the grant to Mrs. Buerck and Mrs. Regelsperger.

👏 Congratulations to these two SGE educators, and we can’t wait to see “Fun Food Friday” in action! 💚 🐲
