We can all agree that some presentations are not just presentations. They are moments.

- A conference talk.
- An invited lecture.
- A board update.
- A stakeholder meeting.
- A pitch for a new idea.
- A session where people need to leave thinking differently.

Those moments deserve more than crowded slides and a page of illegible notes.

To launch the next phase of Meducate Global Academy’s "Own the Moment" presentation skills work, I am selecting five professionals worldwide to receive a complimentary 60-minute personalized presentation strategy session. No strings attached!

This is a giving-back initiative for people with an upcoming communication moment that matters.

Each participant chosen will receive focused support on whatever they need, be it structure, messaging, storytelling, audience connection, slide clarity, delivery, or overall impact. They will have until December 31, 2026 to redeem their session, because the moment that matters may not be happening tomorrow.

Applications will be open for two weeks only.

Selected participants will be notified by email and may be recognized publicly on Meducate Global social media channels with their permission.

This may be useful for you, or for someone in your network whose ideas deserve to be heard, understood, and remembered.

Let’s help more people own the rooms they are already being asked to step into.

Details coming next week...

A few spots remain for this Thursday’s free Mini Masterclasses for students, trainees, and early-career professionals.

I’ve been really encouraged by the global interest and registrations so far.

The focus is simple:

Knowing the material is one thing.
Communicating it clearly under pressure is another.

That shows up in presentations, interviews, defenses, clinical discussions, and moments when someone is asked to explain their thinking in real time. We’ve all been there but we didn’t always have someone to help.

There are two time options this Thursday to make participation easier across regions.

8AM Eastern: https://tinyurl.com/StudentMC8AM

3PM Eastern: https://tinyurl.com/StudentMC3PM

If Thursday does not work, there will be more opportunities coming.

Join the Students and Trainees mailing list: https://tinyurl.com/MiniMCStudents

If you know a student, trainee, or early-career professional who might benefit, please feel free to pass this along.

Send me a note if you’d like more info!

Students and trainees are incredibly well prepared...

Until they actually have to explain something out loud.

Those of us who have the honor and privilege to work with these folks see this often.

⬇️

So here’s what I’m doing about it:

I will be hosting free, live, 60-minute, Mini Masterclasses focused on communicating clearly when it actually matters.

📅 Thursday, 14 May 2026
⏰ 8:00 AM ET https://tinyurl.com/StudentMC8AM
or
3:00 PM ET https://tinyurl.com/StudentMC3PM

🌍 Two time options to make it easier to join from different parts of the world

If the times don’t work but want to be informed of additional options later, join the mailing list here https://tinyurl.com/MiniMCStudents

The knowledge is there.
The thinking is there.
But when it’s time for:
- presentations
- interviews
- defending their thinking

…the communication doesn’t always land the way they intend.

It’s not because they don’t know enough. It’s because often, no one really teaches how to communicate clearly when it matters. That’s the gap I see over and over again.

I’ve loved the work I’ve done with IFMSA International Federation of Medical Students' Associations the AMEE Student Taskforce and yes, I’ve learned a lot from them, and many of their current and former members have participated in live and online sessions that I have delivered in the past.

If you have a student, trainee, or early-career professional in your network (or are one yourself) who might benefit, feel free to pass this along.

First run in 11 weeks and man did it surprise me. I didn’t know what to expect.

My surgeon and PA gave me one rule:
let pain be your guide.

So I did.

I started slow and paid attention. Adjusted as I went.

No pain… and something interesting happened, each mile got faster.

As I was cooling down I realized that there’s a bigger lesson here.

Capacity building, whether personal or organizational, isn’t only about pushing harder and increasing numbers. It’s about:

• Starting where you are
• Listening to real feedback
• Progressing deliberately

That’s how you build something that lasts.

Today wasn’t about getting back to where I was (or so I kept telling myself).

It was about building forward.

(Also… negative splits at 11 weeks post-op. I’ll take it.)

Students and trainees don’t just need to learn more.
They need to learn how to be heard, and trusted.

Because this shows up fast:

Defending a thesis or dissertation
Residency or post-doc interviews
Presenting on rounds

And suddenly it’s not just:
“Do you know this?”
It’s:
“Do I believe you?”

But we don’t really teach that.

So we get the usual:

Too many slides to prove you’re smart
Too quiet to risk being wrong
Sounding like someone else instead of yourself

Not because learners aren’t capable,
but because they’re juggling knowledge, hierarchy, and confidence all at once.

That’s not a learner problem.
It’s a training gap.

And if we wait until later to fix it,
we’re not building skills, we’re undoing habits.

The real opportunity is earlier,
when people are still figuring out how they show up,
how they communicate,
and how they own the moment.

And if I’m being honest…
I definitely thought more slides = more credibility.

Turns out, it mostly meant more slides.
