School Watchlist FHSD School Watchlist: Parents Monitoring School Policies and Practices

08/22/2026

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, local school districts have struggled to fill positions and retain employees, but the tide may be turning.

Francis Howell has approached these staffing concerns by updated its hiring process, streamlined applicant onboarding and actively advertised vacancies.

THIS 1:1 TECH POLICY SHOULDN’T BE HAPPENING TO OUR KIDS

Francis Howell middle and high school students are required to take home district Chromebooks starting August 26 for FHN and carry them every single day. Extra weight in already heavy backpacks + more mandatory screen time is a direct hit on kids’ bodies and minds.

Physical: Research consistently shows backpacks exceeding 10-15% of a student’s body weight increase neck, shoulder, and back pain plus postural problems.

https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/at-play/Pages/Backpack-Safety.aspx

Emotional: Higher screen time is linked to increased anxiety and depression symptoms in adolescents.

Parents — push back.

Email the Board of Education at [email protected] and ask them to reconsider mandatory daily Chromebook carry and the added physical + emotional burden this places on students.

EARLY EXPOSURE TO SEXUAL CONTENT

Research shows early exposure to s*xual content can contribute to distress and dysfunctional development in emotional regulation, premature s*xualization without emotion readiness and increases problematic s*xual behavior by 82%. These children are more likely to develop distorted s*xual attitudes and expectations, emotional distress or trauma-like responses, and misunderstandings about consent.

MISSION CREEP

“Neurodiverse Learner” – This language is not neutral. It comes from a progressive educational framework that often treats neurological differences primarily through an identity/acceptance lens rather than a clinical or developmental one.

Many of these approaches emphasize co-regulation and validation in ways that can undermine clear parental leadership.

Parents - you should want to know exactly which organizations will be present. In many districts these fairs become soft entry points for progressive mental health groups, identity-affirming organizations, or curriculum-linked nonprofits.

Join us in person from 8:00 a.m. - noon on Saturday, September 12, at Saeger Middle School for a free Healthy Minds, Healthy Schools, Family Learning Series event!

Choose between a variety of session topics including Strategies for the Neurodiverse Learner, Guiding Good Choices, Strategies for High-Emotion Moments and more! Registered participants will also have the opportunity to explore the resource fair.

Childcare will be available onsite during the event.

PARENTS THE LONGER YOU WAIT

and you don't hold your child's schools accountable gives these guys more time to dictate what's best for your child's physical mental and emotional health.

Don’t be afraid to speak out for your kids because they are voiceless and rely on you.

Parents — Know Your Rights
You do not have to accept every lesson, survey, or program the school offers.

Here’s what you can do:

✅ Opt out of any content that does not align with your family’s values or beliefs.
You have the right to review materials and formally opt your child out.

✅ Opt out of surveys and questionnaires.
Many are designed to collect personal information about your child’s beliefs, mental health, family life, or identity. You can refuse participation.

✅ Request to preview all surveys, social-emotional lessons, and sensitive materials before they are given to your child.

✅ Put everything in writing.
Send a clear opt-out notice and keep a copy for your records.

✅ Stay informed and connected.
Talk with other parents, attend school board meetings, and share information.

Your child’s education and values start at home. You have the right — and the responsibility — to protect both.

CARL DROPS THE MATH HAMMER ON PROP H

Schooling the District on “Free Money”

VOTE NO on Prop H

The ballot will say $150 million.
That’s only the face value of the bonds — not the real cost to taxpayers.

We’ve seen this before.
Prop S in 2020 said $244 million.
The final price tag? $294 million.

👀That’s $50 MILLION MORE than voters approved!🫣

How did they do it?
✔️They intentionally set higher-than-market interest rates so investors would pay a “premium.”

✔️ The district got extra cash upfront.

‼️Taxpayers get stuck with higher interest payments for the next 10–20 years.‼️

The district will try to call that extra $50 million “free money.”

💰 There is no such thing as free money.💰
It’s basic time value of money.
The mathematics hasn’t changed.

They can pick whatever number they want — they just need to be transparent about the true total cost.

So far, they’re still refusing to do that.

Until the district tells taxpayers the real maximum amount they’ll actually spend,
Vote No on Prop H.

Share this so more people know what’s really at stake.
