Literacy Research Spotlight πβ¨
β¨JLR Article Spotlightβ¨ In JLR's latest issue, Dr. Sharim Hannegan-Martinez argues that literacy education should incorporate trauma-informed and healing-centered practices by fostering loving relationships. Through a case study of one student's experiences, this study examines how literacy curriculum supported her development of love for herself, others, her community, and the wider world. Literacy Research Spotlight π‘
β¨JLR Article Spotlightβ¨ In JLRs most recent issue, Dr. Ankhi Thakurta explores how Indonesian American girls in a virtual critical literacy community used writing and composing to address social inequities and navigate oppression within racist, sexist, and anti-Asian public spaces. Focusing on three girls, the study examines their βcivic compositional literacies,β or the ways they used creative and critical composing to shape civic identities and respond to issues affecting their transnational lives. The findings highlight how critical literacy education can support Asian American girls in using literacy as a form of activism, theorization, and social change.
