Personal update 🌼

I am 3 weeks post-op today!

The past three weeks have been full of ups and downs.

Week 1 was marked by surgery and the start of my 10 week recovery. Unfortunately, a few days into my recovery, I fell sick with a cold the kids brought home the second week of school. 😬

Week 2 brought "phantom cramping" and moderate pain as my internal organs were, and will continue to, shift and fall into place.

Week 3 I started to feel a bit like myself again. I still have aches and pains, but it's normal. When the fatigue hits, it hits hard. On a positive note, I started driving locally to test the waters. So far, so good!

My energy is returning, but I'm exhausted by the end of the day. I have to remind myself that healing takes time and that recovery is a process. ❤️‍🩹

Also during these past three weeks, I have been showered with love, food, and gifts by my friends, family, and neighbors. I am thankful for every one of you. You are truly the best. 💝

Thank you to my sister for the sweetest care package! ☕🌵 To my friends and family, (too many to name, but you know who you are) your love means the world. 🫶🏽

Celebrate with us! 🎉 It's time for a Hispanic Heritage Month Block Party! 💃🏽🌮📚

Happening TODAY, Saturday, September 19th 12-4pm in Easton, MD!

Hosted by the Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center, the annual block party celebrates the colorful, rich histories, cultures, and contributions of the Hispanic community on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

This year's theme is "Many Cultures, One Heart" / Varias Culturas, Un Corazón," which reflects the heart of the ChesMRC's work. ♥️

Spend your Saturday in community and enjoy music, dancing, food, and more! Admission is free.

Classroom for Change will be there today 12-2pm with books that center Hispanic heritage + culture! 📚 We are honored to be a community partner and are excited to be a vendor at this year's event. Stop by our booth and say hi! 👋🏽

Shown in the photo is the award-winning artwork of a local student artist! 🎨 The student won first place 🥇 in a poster contest in collaboration with the Academy Art Museum. The artwork is displayed throughout Easton's Historic District.

📗 This Very Tree – A Story of 9/11, Resilience, and Regrowth by Sean Rubin

❇️ BOOK REVIEW ❇️

This Very Tree is a beautiful picture book that evokes a multitude of emotions while bridging the past to the present. Rubin takes readers on a reflective journey through space and time. The story is rooted in themes of peace, hope, and regrowth. 🌱

It is the story of a tree. 🪾

It is the story of a city. 🏙️

This Very Tree is suitable for all ages and offers a developmentally appropriate introduction to 9/11. The story is told through the perspective of a real Callery pear tree that would later become known as the Survivor Tree. 🌳

In the author's note, Sean Rubin leaves us with this hopeful message: "Thinking about the tree's life, Richie Cabo, a horticulturalist at the Arthur Ross Nursery, concluded that the Survivor Tree and its surrounding community have a lot in common: 'I think of the way the city bounced back and the way the tree keeps bouncing back. It's a New Yorker.'"

The book closes with a brief history of the World Trade Center, 9/11, and the Survivor Tree. The final sentences read: "Today, seedlings of the Survivor Tree are sent all over the world to communities suffering from recent tragedies. These trees, like their parent, continue to stand as symbols of resilience, strength, and hope."

This Very Tree would make a meaningful addition to any school, classroom, community, or home library. It truly is a special book that uses the power of storytelling to highlight the strength of community and the return of life. 🌸

Remembering September 11th – 25 Years Later 🇺🇸🕯️

September 11, 2001 was a scary day. We remember it like it was yesterday. On that day, we witnessed what hate can do, but we also witnessed what love can do. ♥️

Neighbor helping neighbor. Stranger helping stranger. Communities coming together. Everyday heroes. 🫱🏿‍🫲🏼

Twenty five years later, let us reaffirm our commitment to humanity, diversity, peace, + justice. 🌎🕊️⚖️
