Marys “All-Brass” Marching Band, or SMABB for short, is proud to be one of the few high school “All-Brass” Marching Bands remaining in the State of Ohio. All incoming high school woodwind players switch to a brass or percussion instrument, provided by the Board of Education and an active Band Parents Organization. A wide variety of music is presented each season, ranging from blues, popular and ja
zz music, to traditional band music and Broadway selections. Their traditional “Script Riders” concludes each marching season, being performed at the Senior Band Night each year. Marys SummerFest, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Halloween, and Christmas parades, and other community and area events. In addition, they are frequent guests at Marching Band festivals throughout Ohio. SMABB has represented the community of St. Marys at a number of national events during the past twenty years, including the St. Marys, Ontario; Kentucky Derby Pegasus Parade; Brach’s Holiday Parade in Chicago, Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade, Azalea Festival Parade in Richmond, Virginia, the Smoky Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and most recently at the nationally televised 2008 IKEA/Channel 6 Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In December 2012 they will appear at the Orlando Citrus Bowl Parade and a performance at Disney Parks. The marching band performed at The Ohio State University at a Skull Session prior to the OSU/Illinois football game in 2005 and have been the pep band for OSU Mens and Womens Basketball games each of the past six years. While the Marching Band is certainly the most visible, the Symphonic and Concert Bands serve as the heart of the Band program of Memorial High School. The Symphonic Band regularly receives the highest possible ratings of “superior” or “excellent” at Ohio Music Education Association Large Group District and State Adjudicated Events. The band program also includes two jazz bands, pep band, and small ensembles.
