Through the sweat, the long nights, and probably a few tears, Session 23 has officially reached the finish line!

The demands of academic and physical training pushed these cadets beyond what they thought they could do. They worked hard, challenged themselves, supported one another, and came out stronger on the other side.

We are incredibly proud of the men they have become and the great things we know they will accomplish. They are now ready to serve, protect, and make a difference in the communities they represent.

Join us and learn from a local gardening expert who can help you grow with confidence in Southern Utah’s unique desert climate.

Ben Scow is an Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Assistant Professor with Utah State University Extension serving Washington County. Since joining Extension in 2017, he has worked with home gardeners, commercial producers, and landscape enthusiasts to provide practical, research-based solutions for successful growing.

Ben specializes in fruit trees, vegetable gardening, water-wise landscaping, integrated pest management, and sustainable gardening practices. From pruning techniques and diagnosing plant problems to improving landscapes, Ben enjoys making university research easy to understand and apply.

With experience as a nursery manager and small engine mechanic, along with helping manage an eight-acre commercial peach orchard, Ben brings a practical, hands-on approach to gardening. His goal is to help gardeners of all experience levels learn, grow, and succeed.

Nothing goes better with gardening than bees! We had a great time in our garden class learning about honeybees and the basics of beekeeping. We’ve caught our own swarm and are raising our own bees, which has made it even more meaningful. We owe a huge thank you to Lance and Ben.
You haven’t lived until you’ve met Lance! What a fantastic person and beekeeper. He’ll be joining us this fall and teaching a beekeeping series. Stay tuned!
